FG Moves to Rehabilitate Dilapidated Pamanga Bridge in Taraba.

By Jako. The Federal Government has concluded plans to rehabilitate the deteriorating Pamanga Bridge in Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State. Controller of Works in the state, Engr. Usman Ibrahim, disclosed this in Jalingo during an interview with our correspondent. He explained that a team of engineers had visited the site for an assessment, after which emergency repairs would commence to address the most affected portion of the bridge. According to him, the government is aware of the challenges posed by the bridge’s condition and has already carried out palliative work to keep the road accessible. DISASTER: Flood Ravages Farmlands in Lau, Karim Lamido LGAs of Taraba

By Jako. Heavy flooding has destroyed several farmlands and crops across Lau and Karim Lamido Local Government Areas of Taraba State, leaving many farmers counting their losses. Findings by our correspondent revealed that the floods, triggered by recent heavy downpours within the state and neighboring regions, have washed away crops such as maize, rice, millet, and sorghum, among others. Riverine communities including Kwata Langa, Kanawa, Bwoi Baba, Santana, parts of Bandawa, Shomo Tapoi, Sanga, Nibolo Madaka, and Garin Tonga are reported to be under imminent threat as water levels continue to rise. ARMY: 6 Brigade Nigerian Army to Hold Route March in Jalingo.

The Headquarters of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Jalingo, has announced plans to conduct its second Bi-Annual Combined Route March on Friday, 29 August 2025. According to a statement signed by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, the exercise will be held in collaboration with other security agencies within the Jalingo metropolis. The 15-kilometre march, the statement explained, is in line with the Nigerian Army’s Forecast of Events and Training Directive for 2025. It is aimed at improving the operational readiness, physical fitness, resilience, morale, and general preparedness of troops for operational tasks. Residents of Jalingo and its environs have been urged not to panic during the exercise but to go about their normal activities, as the route march is a routine military training activity.

Provost Decries Armed Robbery Attack on Students’ Residence in Jalingo.

The Provost of Taraba State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Jalingo, Mrs. Esther Gana Danjuma, has condemned the recent invasion of students’ residences by armed robbers in the Yagai area of Jalingo. Speaking in an interview with our Crime Correspondent, Danjuma described the incident as devastating, noting that the college management received a distress report of housebreaking and theft in one of the student compounds earlier in the day. Former Taraba Lawmaker Augustine Kata-Kata Kassa Dies at 70.

By Jako.  Former legislator representing Yorro Constituency in the Taraba State House of Assembly, Hon. Augustine Kata-Kata Kassa, has passed away at the age of 70. Kassa, who also served as Commissioner in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, died on Monday, August 25, 2025, after a prolonged illness. Before venturing into politics, the late lawmaker worked as a classroom teacher. Over the years, he held several key positions, including Caretaker Committee Chairman of Yorro Local Government Council and, until his death, a member of the Local Government Pension Board in Jalingo. Described by many as a humble leader, Kassa left a legacy of public service and community development. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rebecca Augustine Kata-Kata, thirteen children, and twelve grandchildren. Among his children is Aaron Augustine Kata-Kata, who works with Yorro Local Government Area. Blind Association Accuses Senator Jimkuta of Marginalizing Persons with Disabilities.

The Nigeria Association of the Blind, Taraba State Chapter, has accused the Senator representing Taraba South, David Su Jimkuta, of neglecting persons with disabilities (PWDs) in his constituency projects and empowerment initiatives. In an open letter signed by the state chairman, Comrade Wanderimam Teyang, and made available to journalists, the association expressed dismay over what it described as “the high rate of discrimination and marginalization” in the senator’s programmes over the past two years. 500 Taraba Women Receive Empowerment Grants from Renewed Hope Initiative.

Taraba Police Arrest Suspected Kidnappers, Recover AK-47 in Gassol LGA

The Taraba State Police Command has recorded another major success in its fight against kidnapping and violent crimes, arresting two suspected kidnappers and recovering a firearm in Gassol Local Government Area. According to a statement issued by the Acting Police Public Relations Officer, ASP James Lashen Saminu, the operation took place on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at about 10:00 a.m., following credible intelligence on the suspects’ activities. Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, working in conjunction with local hunters, raided a hideout at Mahadi Forest in Gassol LGA. Led by its chairman, Hon. Justice Silas Haruna, the commission braved heavy rainfall and crossed the River Benue to reach Munga Lelau, one of the hardest-hit areas. Their first stop was the community’s graveyard, where 42 residents killed during the crisis were laid to rest.
