Taraba at 34: Hon. Abner Shittu Reaffirms Commitment to Development, Peace.

Member-elect representing Karim I Constituency in the Taraba State House of Assembly, Hon. Abner Shittu, has congratulated the people of Taraba as the state marks its 34th anniversary, pledging renewed commitment to development and peace in his constituency.

In a goodwill message on Tuesday, Shittu described the anniversary as a moment of reflection, thanksgiving, and hope for a greater future.

The legislator commended the people of Taraba for their resilience and unity in the face of challenges, stressing that the state has continued to grow in strength, diversity, and cultural richness since its creation in 1991.

“As your representative, I remain committed to ensuring that Karim I Constituency is not left behind in the development journey. Together, we shall continue to pursue peace, progress, and prosperity for all,” Shittu stated.

While acknowledging insecurity as one of the major challenges confronting his constituency, the lawmaker assured that efforts were ongoing in collaboration with relevant authorities to find lasting solutions.

He, however, emphasized the need for unity, vigilance, and faith in God in overcoming the menace.

Shittu also used the opportunity to urge youths, especially from Karim I, to participate actively in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. He noted that obtaining a Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) remains the most effective tool for shaping democracy, influencing leadership, and securing a better future.

“As we celebrate 34 years of Taraba, let us rededicate ourselves to building a state where justice, equity, peace, and good governance prevail. We must unite beyond tribe, religion, or political affiliation to achieve the greatness of our beloved state,” he added.

The lawmaker prayed for God’s guidance for leaders, blessings for the land, and lasting peace across Taraba.

And if urgent steps are not taken, the consequences could be dire. A Pattern Too Familiar From Plateau to Benue, from Southern Kaduna to Zamfara, Nigeria’s troubled history is littered with stories of migration that started innocently but later spiraled into violent conflicts. Farmers and herders once lived in uneasy but manageable coexistence until land sales, unchecked settlements, and political silence turned simple disputes into ethnic conflagrations. The echoes of those past crises are now knock...
