Commission: Peace and Justice Commission Visits Crisis-Hit Karim Lamido, Vows Justice for Victims

By Jako,Karim Lamido,August 14,2025.

The Peace and Justice Commission of Inquiry investigating the recent Karim Lamido crisis and other unrest in Taraba State on Wednesday visited affected communities to verify its fact-finding reports.

Led by its chairman, Hon. Justice Silas Haruna, the commission braved heavy rainfall and crossed the River Benue to reach Munga Lelau, one of the hardest-hit areas. Their first stop was the community’s graveyard, where 42 residents killed during the crisis were laid to rest.

Addressing mourners at the site, Justice Haruna expressed deep condolences, describing the loss as “colossal” and assuring residents that justice would be served. He prayed for God’s comfort for the bereaved families.

In his remarks, the Village Head of Munga Lelau, Peter Bisai, recounted that the community was taken by surprise during the attack, leading to mass casualties. He said many survivors remain displaced, taking refuge in Karim town, Jalingo, Adamawa State, and Mutum Biyu in Gassol Local Government Area.

Bisai appealed to the government for urgent assistance, including food supplies, mats, medical care, and improved security, to help residents rebuild their lives. Widows of some victims, Alhamis Napoleon and Rashida Charles, also urged authorities to provide relief materials.

The commission later proceeded to the Karim Lamido Local Government Secretariat, where traditional rulers, religious leaders, and youth representatives gathered to welcome them.

Justice Haruna urged residents to foster unity and act as their “brother’s keepers.” He lamented the area’s underdevelopment and pledged that the commission would recommend measures to ensure lasting peace.

Representing the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Isa Musa, the Vice Chairman, called on the government to provide basic social amenities to the area. He praised the commission’s commitment to uncovering the root causes of the crisis.

In their contributions, the Chief of Wurkum, HRH Abubakar Haruna Kirim; Chief of Bikwin, HRH Nicholas Bala Sarkinyara; and Nzah Ivah of Jen, HRH Robert Tankawa, all emphasized the urgent need for road construction to improve access to Karim Lamido.

Kurmi on the Brink: Why Silence Now Could Spell Disaster

By The Nigerian Newspointer Editorial Board In the quiet hills and lush forests of Kurmi Local Government Area of Taraba State, an uneasy wind is blowing. And if urgent steps are not taken, the consequences could be dire. A Pattern Too Familiar From Plateau to Benue, from Southern Kaduna to Zamfara, Nigeria’s troubled history is littered with stories of migration that started innocently but later spiraled into violent conflicts. Farmers and herders once lived in uneasy but manageable coexistence until land sales, unchecked settlements, and political silence turned simple disputes into ethnic conflagrations. The echoes of those past crises are now knock...
