ANNIVERSARY: TUC, Stakeholders Laud Taraba’s Progress at 34.

By Jako.

As Taraba State marked its 34th anniversary, stakeholders have commended the developmental strides recorded since its creation, while calling for renewed commitment to building a better future.

In an interview in Jalingo, the Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Taraba State Council, Comrade Prince Sule Abasu, said the state has witnessed remarkable growth in infrastructure, education, and human development.

He recalled that before the establishment of the Danbaba Suntai Airport, traveling in and out of the state was difficult, but the facility has now eased transportation challenges.

Abasu further noted that the presence of tertiary institutions in the state has saved parents the burden of sending their children to distant states such as Enugu, Borno, and Kaduna for higher education.

The labour leader praised both past and present administrations for their contributions to Taraba’s transformation, stressing the need for more dedication to actualize the Taraba of collective dreams.

He described the relationship between organised labour and the state government as cordial and urged civil servants, whom he called “catalysts of progress,” to show greater commitment in discharging their duties.

Also speaking, the Provost of the Taraba State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Jalingo, Mrs. Esther Danjuma Gana, said the state has made appreciable progress in the education sector.
She highlighted that the College of Nursing has trained professionals now working in secondary and tertiary health institutions across the state.

However, Gana expressed concern over the rising cases of poor academic performance among students.

She urged parents to take greater responsibility in guiding their children, warning against practices such as paying others to write examinations for students or registering wards in so-called “miracle centres” for the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE).

According to her, such interference undermines educational standards and must be discouraged.

Kurmi on the Brink: Why Silence Now Could Spell Disaster

By The Nigerian Newspointer Editorial Board In the quiet hills and lush forests of Kurmi Local Government Area of Taraba State, an uneasy wind is blowing. Reports of an unusual influx of Fulani and Hausa migrants fleeing violence in Northern Nigeria have unsettled the peace of this agrarian enclave. Migration in itself is not new—men and women have always moved in search of safety, trade, and survival. But what is happening in Kurmi today bears markers that Nigeria has, sadly, seen before. And if urgent steps are not taken, the consequences could be dire. A Pattern Too Familiar From Plateau to Benue, from Southern Kaduna to Zamfara, Nigeria’s troubled history is littered with stories of migration that started innocently but later spiraled into violent conflicts. Farmers and herders once lived in uneasy but manageable coexistence until land sales, unchecked settlements, and political silence turned simple disputes into ethnic conflagrations. The echoes of those past crises are now knock...
