The Chairman of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Taraba State, Hon. Prince Jonah Bako, JP, has been inducted as a member of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), marking a significant milestone in his professional career.
Bako was inducted alongside about 600 other accountants during the fifth session of the 2026 Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) programme organised by ANAN in Yola, Adamawa State.
The programme, which had the theme, “Climate Change Sustainability Reporting,” was held at the Banquet Hall of the Adamawa State Government House, Dougirei, Yola. It brought together accounting professionals and experts to discuss emerging issues in sustainability reporting, professional development and the evolving responsibilities of accountants in a changing economic environment.
The induction underscores the importance of professional certification, continuous learning and adherence to established ethical standards in strengthening financial management and accountability across Nigeria's public and private sectors.
Speaking after the ceremony, Hon. Bako expressed gratitude to God for guiding him through his professional journey, describing the induction as an important achievement that would further enhance his capacity to contribute to society.
He pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him by the professional body, noting that his membership of ANAN would strengthen his commitment to applying professional knowledge and expertise in the service of humanity.
The APM chairman also appreciated his friends, associates and well-wishers who attended the ceremony and those who sent congratulatory messages and made telephone calls to celebrate his achievement.
Prince Bako noted that the successful completion of the programme reflected ANAN's continued commitment to promoting professional competence, capacity development and ethical conduct among accountants in the country.
He further stressed the need for inducted accountants to translate their professional training into practical contributions to economic growth by promoting transparency, accountability, prudent resource management and sound financial reporting.
The programme's focus on climate change and sustainability reporting also highlights the growing relevance of accounting professionals in helping organisations assess and disclose environmental, social and governance-related risks, particularly as businesses and governments face increasing demands for responsible resource management.
For Nigeria, stronger professional accounting standards and credible financial reporting remain essential to improving public financial management, strengthening investor confidence and supporting sustainable economic development.
Jalingo Times Online Newspaper reports that Bako's induction adds a new professional dimension to his public engagements, while reinforcing the role of recognised accounting institutions in advancing financial integrity, institutional effectiveness and economic sustainability.
