TARABA: TSUBEB Flags Off UBEC Grant Distribution, Deploys SUVs, Motorcycles, ICT Equipment.

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has commenced the distribution of educational materials and equipment procured under the 2024/2025 Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Matching Grant to schools and education stakeholders across the state’s 16 Local Government Areas.

The flag-off ceremony, held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at the TSUBEB headquarters in Jalingo, attracted senior government officials, members of the Taraba State House of Assembly, education stakeholders and management staff of the Board.

Speaking at the event, TSUBEB Executive Chairperson, Hon. Mrs. Christiana Taninga Binga, said the intervention was designed to strengthen education delivery, monitoring and supervision across the state.

Binga stressed that the items should be treated as strategic resources for improving educational outcomes rather than ordinary government assets, assuring that the Board would ensure their equitable, transparent and responsible distribution in line with UBEC guidelines.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Secondary, Vocational and Technical Education, Dr. Augustina Yaya Godwin, described the intervention as a major boost to the education sector, noting that the materials would contribute to improving teaching and learning.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Education, Hon. Hosea Angyu, described education as the bedrock of society and commended TSUBEB for translating government education policies into tangible interventions.

Giving details of the procurement, TSUBEB Director of Procurement, Mr. Balanku Vahnoka, disclosed that the items included six Hilux SUVs for monitoring and evaluation, 63 motorcycles, Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) equipment, cyber computers, servers, ICT equipment and other instructional materials.

In a goodwill message, the Majority Leader of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Jethro Yakubu, urged teachers to remain committed to their duties, assuring that the Assembly would continue to support initiatives aimed at creating a conducive environment for effective teaching and learning.

The Head of Service, Dr. Ahmed Hamidu Kara, charged the relevant authorities to ensure proper utilisation and maintenance of the equipment to achieve the objectives for which they were procured.

Speaking during the vote of thanks, Permanent Member I of TSUBEB, Ambassador Musa John, said the state government’s free education policy was already producing measurable results.

“The free education is yielding evidence; it is not a hype,” Musa said, while commending Governor Agbu Kefas for sustaining the policy and supporting the education sector.

The Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Hon. John Bonzena Kizito, also commended the governor for meeting the state’s counterpart funding obligations under the UBEC Matching Grant.

He described investment in education as one of the most valuable investments any government could make, stressing that “any investment in education is never a waste.”

Representing Governor Agbu Kefas at the ceremony, the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Gebon Timothy Kataps, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to free and compulsory education in Taraba State.

Kataps directed TSUBEB and the relevant ministry to strengthen monitoring mechanisms to ensure that the materials reached their intended destinations and were not diverted.

He warned against the diversion or sale of the items, particularly through the black market, and urged the Board to maintain accurate records and track the equipment to their respective points of deployment.

The SSG subsequently performed the official flag-off and cutting of the tape, marking the commencement of the distribution of the UBEC-funded materials and equipment across the 16 Local Government Areas of Taraba State.

INSECURITY:Bissaula Community Leader Raises Alarm Over Renewed Attack, Calls for Lasting Security Deployment.

A community leader in Bissaula Ward of Kurmi Local Government Area, Taraba State, Alhaji Idi Ismaila, has decried a fresh wave of violence that disrupted the fragile peace recently restored to the area. He made the remarks during a press briefing where he recounted the latest attack and appealed for urgent government intervention. INSECURITY: Two suspected kidnappers nabbed in Mayo Dassa, Jalingo.

Troops of six Brigade Nigerian Army headquarters ,Jalingo have dismantled a notorious kidnapping syndicate terrorizing parts of Jalingo and Lau Local Government Areas of Taraba State.  A statement by Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations Six Brigade Nigeria Army headquarters, Jalingo, Captain Olubodunde Oni says the Brigade act on an intelligence report and two suspects, identified as Ali Idi and Haruna Umar were apprehended early this week.
