INUAGURATION: New CTACD Executives Inaugurated,Prof. Agbu Calls for Unity, Responsible Advocacy

The newly elected executives of the Coalition of Taraba Academics for Continuity and Development (CTACD) have been inaugurated in Jalingo, with the leadership pledging to deploy their intellectual capacity, professional expertise and networks towards promoting good governance, peace and sustainable development in Taraba State and Nigeria.

The inauguration, held at the Conference Hall of Taraba State University, Jalingo, was presided over by the Legal Adviser of the coalition, Dr Saredau Philemon, Esq., who formally inaugurated the new executives.

Those inaugurated include Professor David A. Agbu, Esq., of the Faculty of Law, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, as National President; Professor Mahmood Hamid Umar, Vice President; Dr Isa Mohammed Yola, Secretary; Dr Naomi Henry Joro, Assistant Secretary; Dr Shamaki Mohammed, Financial Secretary; and Professor Sherrif Sangari Jen, Organising Secretary.

Others are Dr Fatima D. Vakkai, Treasurer; Dr Livinus Jesse Ayih, Provost; Dr Stephen Victor Gana, Interim Publicity Secretary; Dr Saredau Philemon, Esq., Legal Adviser; Professor Elijah Akondo, Head of Research and Policy Coordinator; and Dr Magdalene Hikon, Women Leader.

In his inaugural address, Professor Agbu called on members of the coalition to unite and place the collective interest above personal differences, stressing that academics had a special responsibility to contribute meaningfully to the stability, progress and development of society.

He urged members to deploy facts, reasoned arguments and professional knowledge in their public engagement, while rejecting personal attacks, inflammatory rhetoric, misinformation and other forms of communication capable of deepening divisions. He said the coalition's support for the administration of Governor Agbu Kefas and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should be expressed through peaceful, lawful and constructive democratic participation.

The National President further charged members to mobilise colleagues, friends and communities around the principles of continuity, development, peace, good governance and democratic participation. He described the coalition as a collective responsibility, maintaining that unity would strengthen its voice and enable it to make a greater impact on the future of Taraba State and Nigeria.

INSECURITY:Bissaula Community Leader Raises Alarm Over Renewed Attack, Calls for Lasting Security Deployment.

A community leader in Bissaula Ward of Kurmi Local Government Area, Taraba State, Alhaji Idi Ismaila, has decried a fresh wave of violence that disrupted the fragile peace recently restored to the area. He made the remarks during a press briefing where he recounted the latest attack and appealed for urgent government intervention. According to Ismaila, the Bissaula community was thrown into panic on Wednesday, 19 November 2025, at about 8:00 p.m., when unknown gunmen, suspected to be members of the Ndaka-Chamba militia, stormed the village and opened fire. Their primary target was said to be Baba Umaru Gambo, a former youth leader of the community and current Commander of the Taraba Marshal in Kurmi Local Government Area. INSECURITY: Two suspected kidnappers nabbed in Mayo Dassa, Jalingo.

Troops of six Brigade Nigerian Army headquarters ,Jalingo have dismantled a notorious kidnapping syndicate terrorizing parts of Jalingo and Lau Local Government Areas of Taraba State. A statement by Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations Six Brigade Nigeria Army headquarters, Jalingo, Captain Olubodunde Oni says the Brigade act on an intelligence report and two suspects, identified as Ali Idi and Haruna Umar were apprehended early this week. The statement adds that the culprits were captured during a raid at a local hotel in Mayo Dassa area of Jalingo metropolis where they were hiding.
