CRIME:After Alleged Rape, Robbery, Attacks, Danji SS Council Calls for Student Protection.

The Danji SS Campaign Council has raised concerns over alleged attacks, robbery and sexual assault involving students of tertiary institutions in Taraba State, calling for urgent government and security intervention.

The campaign council, in a statement signed by its Director of Media and Strategy, Emmanuel Umaru, said it had received reports of persistent burglary, phone snatching, theft, invasion of students’ off-campus residences and attacks involving dangerous weapons around some tertiary institutions.

The council specifically expressed concern over reported incidents around the Taraba State College of Nursing Sciences, Jalingo, where students were allegedly attacked and several mobile phones stolen.

It also alleged that a female student at the Sambisa Forest Hostel was recently raped, beaten and robbed of her mobile phone after attackers allegedly forced her to disclose her password.

According to the statement, the latest incident reportedly triggered student protests as affected students called for improved security around their residential areas and institutions.

The campaign council urged the Taraba State Government, security agencies, Ministries of Health and Tertiary Education, as well as the managements of affected institutions, to take immediate measures to protect students.

It called for thorough investigations into the allegations and prosecution of anyone found responsible, while urging authorities to strengthen security both within institutional hostels and in off-campus areas where students reside.

The council also appealed to security agencies to handle the ongoing student protest with restraint and professionalism.

It stressed that students participating in the protest should be treated as citizens demanding protection, rather than as criminals, and urged authorities to respect their right to peaceful assembly while addressing their grievances.

“Students went to school to become nurses, teachers and graduates, not to become victims of rape, robbery and assault,” the statement said, insisting that the security of students “is not negotiable.”

The council's statement comes amid growing concerns over the safety of students in some tertiary institution communities in the state.

A community leader in Bissaula Ward of Kurmi Local Government Area, Taraba State, Alhaji Idi Ismaila, has decried a fresh wave of violence that disrupted the fragile peace recently restored to the area. INSECURITY: Two suspected kidnappers nabbed in Mayo Dassa, Jalingo.

Troops of six Brigade Nigerian Army headquarters ,Jalingo have dismantled a notorious kidnapping syndicate terrorizing parts of Jalingo and Lau Local Government Areas of Taraba State. A statement by Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations Six Brigade Nigeria Army headquarters, Jalingo, Captain Olubodunde Oni says the Brigade act on an intelligence report and two suspects, identified as Ali Idi and Haruna Umar were apprehended early this week.
