COLLEGE: Nursing College Assures Students of Improved Security After Yaggai Attacks.

The management of the Taraba State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Jalingo, has assured students of renewed efforts to address security challenges affecting them in Yaggai Community and other areas where they reside outside the college premises.

The Deputy Provost of the College, Nurse Kikhando Agyo, gave the assurance while responding to questions from journalists following a protest by students over recent security incidents.

Nurse Agyo condemned the reported attack on a students’ hostel outside the college, where armed robbers allegedly invaded the residence and made away with mobile phones and other valuables.

He disclosed that one of the students who was reportedly raped during the incident had been admitted to hospital and was receiving medical attention.

According to him, the student was in stable condition as of the time of the briefing.

The Deputy Provost said the college management was working with the Nigeria Police and other relevant security agencies to strengthen security around hostels occupied by students outside the college premises.

He assured the students that management was not relenting in its efforts to ensure the safety of their lives and property.

Also speaking, the President of the College Students’ Union Government (SUG) lamented what he described as persistent attacks on students by suspected armed robbers.

He said the incidents had created fear and insecurity among students, urging the Taraba State Government to expedite the commissioning of the college hostel.

The SUG President said commissioning the hostel would enable students to relocate into the school premises and reduce their exposure to security threats in communities outside the college.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Taraba State Command, CP Edwin Ogbeghagha, assured the students that security personnel would be deployed to areas where students reside outside the college premises.

The Commissioner said the Police Command would also commence a thorough investigation into the incidents with a view to identifying and arresting those responsible.

He assured that anyone found culpable would be made to face the full weight of the law.

The security concerns followed recent reports of attacks on students residing in hostels around Yaggai Community, prompting students to demand urgent intervention from the college management, state government and security agencies.
