AWARD: Hon. Bako Bags Environmental Excellence Award for Greening Jalingo.

The climate action efforts of Hon. Chief Benjamin Bako have earned him a Humanitarian Award of Excellence as Ecosystem Restoration Activist 2024 for his contributions to environmental remediation and urban greening in Taraba State.

The award was conferred on him by the Taraba State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in collaboration with the Munga Breed Climate Action Foundation.

The award plaque, presented to Chief Bako, recognised his contributions to environmental remediation and human development in Taraba State, particularly his personal intervention in restoring vegetation and improving the environment of Jalingo, the state capital.

According to an article by Kolawole Omotosho, Editor of Forest Friends Newspaper, Chief Bako, a Lagos-based indigene of Takum, relocated temporarily to Jalingo three years ago at the inception of Governor Agbu Kefas' administration to support the government’s development agenda.

The article explained that, concerned by the scorching heat and declining vegetation in Jalingo, Chief Bako embarked on a personal environmental restoration initiative without seeking government patronage or financial assistance.

At his own expense, he mobilised earth-moving equipment from Lagos, engaged workers and commenced the restoration of vegetation along the road median stretching from Roadblock to the Government House Roundabout.

The initiative, according to the report, was neither a government contract nor a political project, but a personal commitment to environmental sustainability and the development of his home state.

In furtherance of the project’s sustainability, Chief Bako subsequently handed it over to the Taraba State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, under the leadership of Hon. Aisha Barde, for continued maintenance and nurturing.

The intervention was said to have contributed to the momentum behind the state government's statewide afforestation drive, which seeks to plant two million trees across Taraba State.

The initiative also complements the environmental sanitation and beautification efforts of the Chairman of Operation KEEP Taraba Clean, Hon. Iliya Kefas, in promoting a cleaner, greener and more environmentally sustainable Taraba.

Reacting to the recognition, Chief Bako described the award as a call to intensify his contributions to environmental protection and climate action in Taraba State and Nigeria at large.

Beyond his environmental contributions, Bako has also been recognised for his developmental strides as Executive Chairman of Takum Local Government Council.

His administration has recorded notable infrastructural achievements, including the construction of a modern market and a modern abattoir, alongside other development projects.

The projects have reportedly attracted the support of Takum-born philanthropist and retired Lieutenant General T.Y. Danjuma, while Bako has received several recognitions from reputable organisations, including the Rotary Club.

The latest honour highlights the role of individual initiatives in environmental restoration and sustainable development, with Bako's greening intervention in Jalingo serving as an example of private commitment to improving the environment and quality of life in Taraba State.

INSECURITY:Bissaula Community Leader Raises Alarm Over Renewed Attack, Calls for Lasting Security Deployment.

A community leader in Bissaula Ward of Kurmi Local Government Area, Taraba State, Alhaji Idi Ismaila, has decried a fresh wave of violence that disrupted the fragile peace recently restored to the area. He made the remarks during a press briefing where he recounted the latest attack and appealed for urgent government intervention. INSECURITY: Two suspected kidnappers nabbed in Mayo Dassa, Jalingo.

Troops of six Brigade Nigerian Army headquarters ,Jalingo have dismantled a notorious kidnapping syndicate terrorizing parts of Jalingo and Lau Local Government Areas of Taraba State.  A statement by Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations Six Brigade Nigeria Army headquarters, Jalingo, Captain Olubodunde Oni says the Brigade act on an intelligence report and two suspects, identified as Ali Idi and Haruna Umar were apprehended early this week.
