The Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the 2027 Taraba State governorship election, Hon. Danjuma Usman Shiddi, popularly known as Danji SS, has called for a new approach to governance capable of translating Taraba State’s abundant resources into sustainable economic opportunities for its people.
Shiddi made the call in a statement marking the 35th anniversary of the creation of Taraba State, where he congratulated Tarabans at home and abroad and urged citizens to use the anniversary as an opportunity for both celebration and reflection.
The APGA candidate acknowledged the resilience, diversity and contributions of Tarabans over the past 35 years, commending past leaders, traditional institutions, civil servants, farmers, teachers, entrepreneurs, security personnel and young people for their roles in the development of the state.
According to him, Taraba’s 35th anniversary should prompt a deeper conversation about how the state can better harness its vast natural and human resources for the benefit of its citizens.
He identified the state’s fertile agricultural land, forests, rivers, mineral resources and tourism assets, including the Mambilla Plateau, Gashaka-Gumti National Park and Chappal Waddi, as opportunities capable of positioning Taraba as a major economic and tourism destination.
Shiddi, however, expressed concern that the state had yet to fully translate these resources into industries, jobs, wealth creation and improved living standards.
He said Tarabans deserved governance that prioritises measurable development, accountability and policies capable of producing lasting economic benefits.
“Our people deserve more than political speeches, temporary interventions and projects that do not fundamentally transform their lives,” he stated.
The APGA candidate proposed an economic model that would reposition agriculture from subsistence production to a commercial industry, promote local processing of mineral resources, expand tourism, support entrepreneurship and create employment opportunities for young people within the state.
He also called for greater attention to rural communities, stressing that development should extend beyond the state capital to communities across Taraba.
Shiddi said the state had the capacity to become an economic powerhouse in the Northeast if its resources were strategically developed and its human capital effectively mobilised.
He advocated what he described as a new political culture centred on performance, accountability, production and inclusive development.
“Less politics of personality and more politics of development; less waste and more accountability; less dependence and more production,” he said.
The governorship candidate said his candidacy and the APGA platform represented a commitment to building a state where government serves the people and creates opportunities for citizens to prosper.
He urged Tarabans to make the 35th anniversary a turning point in the collective determination to build a more prosperous and inclusive state for present and future generations.
“Taraba has waited long enough. Our state deserves leadership that matches its potential,” Shiddi said.
He wished Tarabans a happy 35th anniversary and praying for continued peace, progress and prosperity in the state and Nigeria.
