From ‘Invisible’ to Indispensable: Aisha Barde’s Leadership Repositions Taraba Environment Ministry.

The Taraba State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is witnessing a remarkable transformation, emerging as one of the state’s increasingly visible and result-oriented government institutions under the leadership of its Commissioner, Hon. Aisha A. Barde.

Once regarded by some observers as a relatively low-profile ministry in the affairs of the state, the ministry has, in recent months, begun to attract attention through improved visibility, institutional activity and measurable performance.

A major indication of the ministry’s changing fortunes was its performance at the maiden Quarterly Revenue Performance Review organised by the Taraba State Internal Revenue Service (TIRS) for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

Figures presented during the review showed that the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change significantly exceeded its revenue target for the first half of 2026.

The ministry had a first-quarter revenue target of ₦54,187,897, while its second-quarter target stood at ₦54,181,897.50, translating to a combined half-year target of ₦107,363,795.

Against the target, the ministry generated ₦121,802,000 in the first quarter and ₦95,195,000 in the second quarter.

The figures amounted to a cumulative revenue generation of ₦216,997,000 in the first six months of 2026, representing 200.25 per cent performance against the half-year target.

The development has placed the ministry among the notable performers reviewed by TIRS and provided a measurable indication of improved revenue mobilisation and administrative efficiency.

Beyond the figures, however, the ministry’s growing visibility reflects a broader shift in how environmental governance is being positioned within Taraba’s development agenda.

The environment portfolio extends beyond sanitation and regulatory functions to areas including climate change, urban development, environmental protection, public health and sustainable economic development.

With these responsibilities becoming increasingly important amid growing concerns over climate change, environmental degradation and sustainable development, the ministry's renewed visibility could prove significant to the state's long-term development efforts.

Under Barde’s leadership, the ministry appears to be moving towards a more proactive institutional posture, with greater emphasis on translating its mandate into measurable outcomes.

The revenue performance, therefore, offers more than just a financial statistic. It provides an indication of an institution strengthening its internal systems and demonstrating its capacity to contribute meaningfully to government revenue and development objectives.

For observers of public administration in Taraba, the development also reinforces the argument that effective leadership can reposition government institutions that were previously perceived as operating below their potential.

The emerging narrative around the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is consequently one of transition—from relative obscurity to increased visibility, relevance and measurable performance.

While revenue generation alone cannot be the sole measure of a ministry’s effectiveness, the latest figures provide a concrete benchmark of progress and add weight to the growing recognition of the ministry under Hon. Aisha A. Barde’s leadership.

As Taraba continues to pursue sustainable development and confront emerging environmental challenges, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is increasingly taking its place as an important player in the state’s development architecture.

SCHOOL: Taraba Nursing College Denies ₦5,250 Extortion Allegation Linked to NELFUND Loan.

The Management of the Taraba State College of Nursing and Midwifery Jalingo  has denied allegations circulating on social media that it extorted ₦5,250 from students following the disbursement of funds under the (NELFUND). The allegation, which was attributed to one Abdulmumin Imam in a social media post, claimed that the management of the college, including the Provost, compelled students to pay the amount after receiving their NELFUND loans. INSECURITY: Two suspected kidnappers nabbed in Mayo Dassa, Jalingo.

Troops of six Brigade Nigerian Army headquarters ,Jalingo have dismantled a notorious kidnapping syndicate terrorizing parts of Jalingo and Lau Local Government Areas of Taraba State.  A statement by Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations Six Brigade Nigeria Army headquarters, Jalingo, Captain Olubodunde Oni says the Brigade act on an intelligence report and two suspects, identified as Ali Idi and Haruna Umar were apprehended early this week.
