TARABA STATE: Gov. Kefas Delivers 30-Year Breakthrough As Taraba Health College Holds First Convocation.

The Taraba State College of Health Technology, Takum, held its historic maiden convocation ceremony on Saturday, July 25, 30 years after the institution was established.

The Provost of the College, Dr. Mrs. Wama Emmanuel Binga, described the development as not only a breakthrough for community health workers, but also for graduates of health-related disciplines and intending applicants seeking quality training.

She credited the milestone to the commitment of Governor Agbu Kefas, describing him as a record breaker who made the convocation possible during his administration.

“To me, His Excellency is a record breaker because our institution has existed for 30 years without a convocation, but he has made it possible during his administration,” she stated.

Dr. Mrs. Binga said the convocation is a major boost to the health sector in the state.

“This will provide the needed manpower to strengthen primary healthcare delivery across Taraba. Graduates from this College will fill critical gaps in hospitals, PHCs and rural clinics. With more trained health professionals, we can reduce maternal and child mortality and improve access to care". she said.

At the convocation, the Provost also highlighted key achievements recorded under her leadership. She said the College underwent NBTE resource and accreditation verification exercises which led to the accreditation of existing and newly introduced courses, placing the College’s certificates within national academic standards.

She added that the College has expanded its academic scope to include Degree programs in some health-related disciplines, a development she attributed to strategic planning and collaboration with relevant regulatory bodies.

Speaking at the event, Governor Agbu Kefas, through the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hon. Mike Dio Jen, assured the College management that requests for additional facilities and support would receive government attention.

“We have started the process of amending necessary laws to enable the College to access TETFund, similar to the reforms carried out for the College of Agriculture which now enjoys TETFund intervention,” he said.

The convocation was the first in the institution’s more than three decades of existence and marked the graduation of students trained over a 30-year period.

Reaffirming her dedication, Dr. Binga pledged to continue providing quality leadership to reposition the College and produce qualified health professionals for Taraba State and Nigeria at large.

The maiden convocation was attended by government officials, traditional rulers, parents, and graduands from various programs.

INSECURITY:Bissaula Community Leader Raises Alarm Over Renewed Attack, Calls for Lasting Security Deployment.

A community leader in Bissaula Ward of Kurmi Local Government Area, Taraba State, Alhaji Idi Ismaila, has decried a fresh wave of violence that disrupted the fragile peace recently restored to the area. He made the remarks during a press briefing where he recounted the latest attack and appealed for urgent government intervention. INSECURITY: Two suspected kidnappers nabbed in Mayo Dassa, Jalingo.

Troops of six Brigade Nigerian Army headquarters ,Jalingo have dismantled a notorious kidnapping syndicate terrorizing parts of Jalingo and Lau Local Government Areas of Taraba State. A statement by Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations Six Brigade Nigeria Army headquarters, Jalingo, Captain Olubodunde Oni says the Brigade act on an intelligence report and two suspects, identified as Ali Idi and Haruna Umar were apprehended early this week.
