TSU Innovator Engr. Bako Showcases Groundbreaking Agricultural Technology at Nigerian Academy of Engineering National Innovation Competition.

Taraba State University, Jalingo, is once again making a strong statement on the national stage as Dr. Engr. Tanko Bako is currently representing the institution at the 3rd National Innovation Competition of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering (NAEng) holding at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.

Dr. Bako's innovation, titled "Development and Evaluation of a Bio-Organic Powder Fertilizer (Fertipest) for Arable Crop Production," was selected among numerous entries submitted from across the country and has successfully emerged as one of the final eight innovations shortlisted for the grand finale of the competition.

The innovation, which originated from the Department of Agricultural and Bio-Resources Engineering, is designed to provide an environmentally friendly and sustainable solution to crop production challenges while promoting increased agricultural productivity among farmers.

According to the organisers, the Nigerian Academy of Engineering, the shortlisted innovations were selected based on originality, relevance, impact and potential contribution to national development. By reaching the final stage, Dr. Bako has already secured a Certificate of Merit from the Academy and is now competing for the top prizes, including the grand prize of ₦12 million.

As part of the competition activities, finalists are participating in a special exhibition where their innovations are being showcased to distinguished Fellows of the Academy, industry leaders, policymakers, sponsors, investors and other stakeholders in Nigeria's innovation ecosystem.

The participation of Taraba State University at this prestigious event has been made possible through the support and sponsorship of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sunday Paul Bako, whose administration has consistently encouraged research, innovation, entrepreneurship and the commercialization of academic discoveries.

The Vice-Chancellor's commitment to fostering a culture of innovation has continued to position the University as a hub for research-driven solutions to societal challenges. Under his leadership, several innovative projects developed by staff and students have gained national and international recognition.

Speaking on the significance of the event, some members of the University community expressed optimism that Dr. Bako's innovation would attract wider recognition and contribute significantly to advancing sustainable agriculture in Nigeria.

The achievement is another sign of growing reputation of Taraba State University as an institution committed to excellence in teaching, research, innovation and community service.

As the competition progresses, the University community joins well-wishers across the country in wishing Dr. Engr. Tanko Bako success as he proudly flies the flag of Taraba State University on the national innovation stage.

INSECURITY: Two suspected kidnappers nabbed in Mayo Dassa, Jalingo.

Troops of six Brigade Nigerian Army headquarters ,Jalingo have dismantled a notorious kidnapping syndicate terrorizing parts of Jalingo and Lau Local Government Areas of Taraba State.  A statement by Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations Six Brigade Nigeria Army headquarters, Jalingo, Captain Olubodunde Oni says the Brigade act on an intelligence report and two suspects, identified as Ali Idi and Haruna Umar were apprehended early this week. The statement adds that the culprits were captured during a raid at a local hotel in Mayo Dassa area of Jalingo metropolis where they were hiding.  It adds that Further investigations led to the discovery that the gang's hideout was at Kona Mountain in Jalingo , where additional members of the syndicate were believed to be camped. INSECURITY:Bissaula Community Leader Raises Alarm Over Renewed Attack, Calls for Lasting Security Deployment.

A community leader in Bissaula Ward of Kurmi Local Government Area, Taraba State, Alhaji Idi Ismaila, has decried a fresh wave of violence that disrupted the fragile peace recently restored to the area. He made the remarks during a press briefing where he recounted the latest attack and appealed for urgent government intervention. According to Ismaila, the Bissaula community was thrown into panic on Wednesday, 19 November 2025, at about 8:00 p.m., when unknown gunmen, suspected to be members of the Ndaka-Chamba militia, stormed the village and opened fire. Their primary target was said to be Baba Umaru Gambo, a former youth leader of the community and current Commander of the Taraba Marshal in Kurmi Local Government Area.
