EDUCATION: Taraba College of Agriculture Science and Technology Jalingo Holds Matriculation for 2025/2026 Academic Session.

The Taraba State College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Jalingo, has conducted its maiden matriculation ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session, in a move described as a major step in its emergence as a hub for technical and vocational education.

The ceremony, attended by dignitaries, academic staff, students and invited guests, underscored the institution’s expanding role in promoting practical and skills-based education in Taraba State and beyond.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor of Taraba State University, Prof. Sunday Paul Bako, the Director of Academic Planning, Prof. Bakari Aliyu, commended the college for aligning with the university’s vision of academic excellence and digital transformation.

Professor Bako described the matriculation as a “remarkable beginning” and encouraged the college management to prioritise digitalisation through the development of modern learning systems and centralised academic databases.


In his welcome address, the Rector, Dr. Yakubu Ali Garjila, described the event as historic, formally welcoming newly admitted students across Degree, Higher National Diploma (HND), National Diploma (ND) and Certificate programmes. He urged the students to remain disciplined, focused and committed to their studies.

Dr. Garjila also lauded the leadership of the Taraba State University Vice-Chancellor for expanding access to quality education through strategic affiliations, noting that the college has commenced 10 undergraduate programmes in collaboration with the university. According to him, the initiative provides a pathway for ND and HND graduates to gain direct entry into degree programmes.

He further acknowledged the support of the Taraba State Government under Governor Agbu Kefas in strengthening the education sector.

The event also featured the presence of officials from the Taraba State Ministry of Tertiary Education, including the Commissioner, represented by the Director of Quality Assurance, Mr. Emmanuel Abashi, alongside other stakeholders.

The ceremony formally inducted the students into the academic community, setting the tone for a future driven by innovation, digital learning and academic excellence.
Recalled that Taraba State College of Agriculture Science and Technology is now an affiliate with Taraba State University Jalingo running degree programs in diverse areas of learning.

INSECURITY: Two suspected kidnappers nabbed in Mayo Dassa, Jalingo.

Troops of six Brigade Nigerian Army headquarters ,Jalingo have dismantled a notorious kidnapping syndicate terrorizing parts of Jalingo and Lau Local Government Areas of Taraba State.  A statement by Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations Six Brigade Nigeria Army headquarters, Jalingo, Captain Olubodunde Oni says the Brigade act on an intelligence report and two suspects, identified as Ali Idi and Haruna Umar were apprehended early this week. INSECURITY:Bissaula Community Leader Raises Alarm Over Renewed Attack, Calls for Lasting Security Deployment.

A community leader in Bissaula Ward of Kurmi Local Government Area, Taraba State, Alhaji Idi Ismaila, has decried a fresh wave of violence that disrupted the fragile peace recently restored to the area. He made the remarks during a press briefing where he recounted the latest attack and appealed for urgent government intervention. According to Ismaila, the Bissaula community was thrown into panic on Wednesday, 19 November 2025, at about 8:00 p.m., when unknown gunmen, suspected to be members of the Ndaka-Chamba militia, stormed the village and opened fire. Their primary target was said to be Baba Umaru Gambo, a former youth leader of the community and current Commander of the Taraba Marshal in Kurmi Local Government Area.
