TSESA: Taraba Enforces Total Lockdown for Sanitation, Declares Emergency on Blocked Drainages.

By Jako Keke, March 25, 2026.
The Taraba State Environmental Sanitation Agency has announced a sweeping set of measures aimed at strengthening environmental hygiene across the state, including a total lockdown during sanitation hours and an emergency intervention on blocked drainage systems in the state capital, Jalingo.

The decisions were reached on March 23, 2026, during the agency’s monthly board meeting attended by top officials and board members. The meeting, convened under the leadership of the agency’s management, focused on addressing sanitation challenges and preparing the state ahead of the rainy season.

A key resolution from the meeting mandates strict enforcement of movement restrictions during the monthly sanitation exercise. According to the agency, all shops, markets, and workplaces will remain closed during the exercise, with only essential services exempted as may be officially approved.

Residents have been urged to actively participate by cleaning their immediate environments, including sweeping streets and ensuring proper waste disposal, in line with existing sanitation regulations.

In a decisive move to tackle flooding risks, the agency also declared a state of emergency on blocked culverts and waterways across Jalingo metropolis. Authorities say immediate action will be taken to evacuate debris and clear drainage channels to ensure the free flow of water as the rainy season approaches.

The agency stressed that the proactive intervention is necessary to prevent flooding and mitigate environmental hazards that often accompany poor drainage systems.

It further called on community leaders, stakeholders, and residents to cooperate fully with sanitation officials and support the exercise scheduled for March 28, 2026.

The agency emphasized that collective responsibility remains critical to achieving a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment for all residents of the state.
