The Taraba State Council of the (NUJ), in collaboration with the state chapter of the (SWAN), has paid a condolence visit to the family of their late colleague, Tanko Bauka Gangum, who passed away last Monday after a brief illness in Jalingo.
Leading the delegation, the NUJ State Chairman, , described Bauka’s death as a significant loss to the media industry. He noted that the late journalist dedicated his life to the growth and development of journalism, adding that even in the face of recent health challenges, he remained committed to speaking against societal ills through his writings.
He prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and urged the family to take solace in the impactful life he lived.
In his remarks, the immediate past Deputy National President of SWAN, , who spoke on behalf of the association, recalled his close working relationship with the late Bauka during his tenure as SWAN Chairman in the state, with Bauka serving as Secretary.
Moyoyo described the death as a painful reminder of life’s inevitability, noting that while death is certain, it often comes with profound shock. He highlighted Bauka’s immense contributions to sports development, not only in Taraba State but across the country, and prayed for strength for the bereaved family, colleagues, and associates to bear the irreparable loss.
Responding on behalf of the family, the elder brother of the deceased, Useni Baka Skebra, expressed appreciation to the NUJ and SWAN for the visit, describing it as a gesture that would remain indelible in the family’s memory. He noted that the show of solidarity reflects the cordial relationship Bauka maintained with his colleagues during his lifetime.
He also announced that the burial rites for the late journalist are scheduled to take place on April 2 in his hometown, Takum.
As part of the visit, Comrade Jen presented a letter of condolence and a token of support to the family on behalf of the NUJ.
Until his death at the age of 56, Tanko Bauka Gangum was a senior news reporter with the Taraba State Television Corporation, Jalingo.
