Vehicular movement was partially restricted across Jalingo metropolis on Saturday as residents complied with the state’s monthly environmental sanitation exercise.
The exercise, reintroduced by the Taraba State Environmental Sanitation Agency (TSESA), is aimed at promoting cleanliness and improving environmental hygiene across the state.
Sanitation activities commenced at about 7:00 a.m., with agency workers deployed to sweep major streets and routes, as well as evacuate and dispose of refuse from designated areas. In some locations, waste was also burned under controlled conditions.
Commercial activities were temporarily halted in parts of the city, as shops in Mile Six, Dinyavoh, Jalingo Main Market, and ATC Market remained closed during the exercise in compliance with sanitation regulations.
Speaking on the exercise, the Chairman of TSESA, Iliya Kefas Alhaji, commended residents of Jalingo for their level of compliance and cooperation. He noted that public support has been instrumental in enabling the agency to effectively carry out its mandate.
Alhaji expressed appreciation for the commitment shown by sanitation workers, who turned out in large numbers to participate in the exercise. He added that the initiative is gradually transforming the environmental outlook of the state capital and other local government headquarters.
The monthly sanitation exercise forms part of broader efforts by the state government to instill a culture of cleanliness and safeguard public health.
