A former lawmaker and prominent political figure in Taraba State, Hon. Danjuma Usman Shiddi, has officially defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), citing the need for strategic realignment to advance the state’s development agenda.
In an official statement addressed to citizens of Taraba State, Shiddi disclosed that his resignation from the ADC on March 18 followed what he described as “deep reflection” and extensive consultations with political associates and stakeholders across the state.
He explained that his decision to join APGA was informed by prevailing political realities and the need to reposition Taraba for sustainable growth and inclusive governance. According to him, the move is “not merely political, but strategic and purposeful,” aimed at fostering progressive leadership and people-oriented policies.
Shiddi, who previously served as a member of the National Assembly under the APGA platform, noted that the party remains a familiar and viable vehicle for his renewed political engagement.
Calling for unity, the former lawmaker urged his supporters, political allies, and residents of the state to rally behind the new movement. He emphasized the importance of setting aside divisions to collectively address what he termed as stagnation in the state’s development trajectory.
“The time has come for us to rise above division and work together to rescue our state and steer it toward a future of opportunity and prosperity,” he stated.
He further described APGA as an inclusive platform, encouraging aspirants and stakeholders committed to the transformation of Taraba State to align with the party in building a legacy for future generations.
Shiddi also expressed gratitude to the people of Taraba for their support and solidarity following his exit from the ADC, assuring them that his political decisions remain guided by the principles of justice, accountability, and rule of law.
Reaffirming his commitment to public service, he pledged to continue serving the people with integrity, courage, and dedication, stressing that his loyalty remains firmly with the citizens of the state.
The defection is expected to reshape political alignments ahead of future elections in Taraba State, as stakeholders continue to assess its potential impact on the state’s political landscape.
