The Taraba State Police Command on Tuesday staged a 10-kilometre walkathon in Jalingo as part of activities marking the second day of the 2026 National Police Week, reinforcing efforts to strengthen relations between the police and the public.
The exercise, which drew participation from officers and men of the Command, members of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), and the Association of Youth Leaders in Jalingo, traversed major routes within the state capital.
The walkathon forms part of a series of engagements lined up for this year’s National Police Week themed “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” aimed at fostering cooperation, unity, and mutual understanding between security agencies and the communities they serve.
Speaking during the event, the Commissioner of Police in Taraba State, Morkwap S. Dongshal, underscored the critical role of community collaboration in effective policing. He reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to building stronger partnerships with community leaders, youth groups, and other stakeholders to enhance peace and security across the state.
The Command commended the active involvement of POWA, youth leaders, and other participants, describing their turnout as a reflection of growing public confidence and cooperation with the police.
Reaffirming its mandate, the Command assured residents of its continued dedication to the protection of lives and property, while urging citizens to support security agencies with timely and credible information to curb crime and criminality in Taraba State.
The National Police Week is an annual initiative of the Nigeria Police Force designed to promote accountability, public engagement, and trust-building through community-focused activities.
