The Headquarters 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Jalingo has honoured two senior non-commissioned officers following their retirement after 35 years of distinguished service, marking the end of an era in the Brigade’s operational and disciplinary structure.
The colourful send-forth ceremony, held on Friday, March 27, 2026, was presided over by the Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, , who paid glowing tribute to the retiring Regimental Sergeant Majors (RSMs) for their exemplary records.
The retirees, Master Warrant Officer David Cole, RSM Headquarters 6 Brigade, and Master Warrant Officer Titus Phillibus, RSM 732 Supply and Transport Battalion, were celebrated for their unblemished service and dedication to duty. Both officers are scheduled to proceed to the in Oshodi, Lagos, as part of their transition into civilian life.
In his remarks, Brigadier General Akaliro described the retirees as disciplined, hardworking, and committed soldiers whose leadership and mentorship have significantly shaped younger personnel within the ranks. He noted that their professionalism aligns with the Nigerian Army’s “Soldier First” doctrine, which prioritises recognition of outstanding service.
He urged the retirees to embrace peaceful post-service lives while remaining proud ambassadors of the military institution, assuring them that they would continue to be regarded as valued members of the 6 Brigade family.
Earlier, the Chief of Staff, Headquarters 6 Brigade, , highlighted the strategic importance of the RSM office, describing it as the backbone of discipline and regimentation in the Army. He noted that the simultaneous retirement of the two senior soldiers represents a significant transition for the Brigade, given their longstanding contributions.
Colonel Mohammed commended the retirees for their loyalty and professionalism, expressing confidence that the leadership values they embodied in service would remain impactful in their civilian engagements. He further encouraged them to contribute to community development as representatives of the Nigerian Army.
Speaking on behalf of the retirees, Master Warrant Officer David Cole expressed appreciation to the Brigade leadership for the honour accorded them. He also lauded Brigadier General Akaliro’s leadership style, attributing recent operational gains of the Brigade to his guidance.
Cole advised serving personnel to remain steadfast, disciplined, and committed to their duties to sustain the integrity and effectiveness of the Nigerian Army.
The ceremony featured presentation of certificates, souvenirs, and gifts to the retirees, as well as a group photograph to commemorate the occasion.
