YOWICAN North East Chairman Cautions Youths Against Toxic Social Media Loyalty

By Our Correspondent  July 27, 2025

The Chairman of the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN), North East Zone, Evangelist Jesse Ephesian JP, has issued a passionate appeal to Nigerian youths, urging them to avoid jeopardizing their futures by engaging in online wars in defense of political or personal interests.

In an open letter titled “Don’t Block Your Future While Defending Someone Else’s Ego,” the youth leader cautioned against the growing trend of social media users—especially young people—attacking and insulting others under the guise of loyalty to political figures or influential individuals.

“Social media never forgets,” Evangelist Ephesian warned. “The screenshots, comments, and insults you post today could resurface years later and cost you job opportunities, leadership appointments, or even your credibility.”

He acknowledged the frustrations and ambitions of many young people seeking recognition in a competitive environment but stressed the importance of protecting one’s digital footprint. According to him, many youths are unknowingly creating lasting enemies and sabotaging their own futures while attempting to impress people who may never return the loyalty.

“Politicians may sponsor you to insult their opponents, but they won’t stand with you when your reputation is on the line,” he said.

Ephesian advised young people to focus on personal growth, education, and building a name based on merit rather than noise or blind allegiance. He urged them to seek influence through excellence, value, and character.

“You were not born to be a tool in someone else's fight,” he concluded. “You were born to be a name, a force, and a legacy.”

The message has since sparked discussions across social media platforms, with many praising its timely relevance in an age of digital recklessness and politically charged online engagements.

By The Nigerian Newspointer Editorial Board In the quiet hills and lush forests of Kurmi Local Government Area of Taraba State, an uneasy wind is blowing. Migration in itself is not new—men and women have always moved in search of safety, trade, and survival. But what is happening in Kurmi today bears markers that Nigeria has, sadly, seen before. And if urgent steps are not taken, the consequences could be dire. A Pattern Too Familiar From Plateau to Benue, from Southern Kaduna to Zamfara, Nigeria’s troubled history is littered with stories of migration that started innocently but later spiraled into violent conflicts. Farmers and herders once lived in uneasy but manageable coexistence until land sales, unchecked settlements, and political silence turned simple disputes into ethnic conflagrations. The echoes of those past crises are now knock...
