WORLD NGOs Day: Engage NGOs in your committees Dr Gimba urges Taraba State Government.


The Chairman of the Coalition of Civil Societies Organisations of Taraba State, COCSTO, Dr Joseph Gimba PhD has appealed to the Taraba State Government to always carry NGO's in its activities.

The Chairman stated this while commenting on this year's World Non-Governmental Organisations,NGOs Day in Jalingo.

Dr Gimba while commending the cordial working relationship between the NGOs and Taraba State Government,said the Government should fulfill its obligation to the Civil Society Organisations in Taraba State to enable them function effectively.

The Chairman also remarked that as NGO's observes the World NGOs Day there are the need for governments, private sector actors and International bodies to support grassroots organisations through funding, technical assistance and Capacity building programs, enhance collaboration between International NGOs and Community based groups to scale impact and share best practices.

Others areas are; advocate for policies that create and enabling environment for grassroots initiatives to thrive,raise awareness on the importance of NGOs and their roles in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals,SDGs and Promoting volunteerism and Civic engagement to strengthen grassroots activism and local leadership.

Gimba revealed that this year's commemoration themed ' Empowering Grassroots Movements for a Sustainable Future, aims to highlight the pivotal role of community -driven initiatives in fostering lasting and meaningful development championed by the NGO's.

He recalled that for decades, NGO's have been at the forefront of advocating for human rights, social justice, environmental protection and humanitarian aid, stressing that their tireless efforts have empowered marginalized communities, influenced policies and provided essential services where governments and private sectors may not reach.


The Chairman added that this year's theme reinforces the collective commitment to strengthening grassroots movements as catalysts for sustainable and inclusive development.

The Director of International Cooperation with the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning Wilfred Jimu said the government will continue to partner with NGOs to ensure government development are carry out transparently.

Also speaking a Development Practitioner,Daniel Abah said the commemoration aims at drawing the attention of governments to actively engage NGOs in it's activities for a sustainable development.

INSECURITY: Two suspected kidnappers nabbed in Mayo Dassa, Jalingo.

Troops of six Brigade Nigerian Army headquarters ,Jalingo have dismantled a notorious kidnapping syndicate terrorizing parts of Jalingo and Lau Local Government Areas of Taraba State.  A statement by Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations Six Brigade Nigeria Army headquarters, Jalingo, Captain Olubodunde Oni says the Brigade act on an intelligence report and two suspects, identified as Ali Idi and Haruna Umar were apprehended early this week. The statement adds that the culprits were captured during a raid at a local hotel in Mayo Dassa area of Jalingo metropolis where they were hiding.  It adds that Further investigations led to the discovery that the gang's hideout was at Kona Mountain in Jalingo , where additional members of the syndicate were believed to be camped. RELIGION: UMC-N Bishop Ande Emmanuel decries continual tensions,calls on Gov.Agbu to waive into the matter.

The Resident Bishop United Methodist Church Nigeria  Episcopal Area, Ande Emmanuel has decried continual tensions impacting the church in Nigeria. The Bishop, in a Press briefing in Jalingo, condemned any act of violence or disrespect to the church, referencing the attack at Banyan Theological Seminary in the Bambur Community of Karim Lamido Local government area. He remarked that the Seminary established in 1946 by the United Methodist Church agencies and donors has been manned by the church and has continued to fund the Seminary that has trained many clergy of the UMC, including him.
