UNION: Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC Taraba State Council, Comrade Peter Jediel Hails Local Government Autonomy Conferred by the Federal Government, Proclaims it a Victory for Democracy.
The Chairman of the NLC made the remarks in his speech during the state delegates conference of Medical and Health Workers' Union of Nigeria in Jalingo.
Comrade Peter Jediel who doubles as the chairman of the union stated that; when implemented, the Local Government Autonomy will bring people at the grassroots better dividends of democracy at their doorsteps.
The union leader also challenged Local government Chairmen to use their monthly allocations to develop their local communities with better infrastructures, especially healthcare infrastructures.
Jediel also lauded Governor Agbu Kefas for prioritizing the welfare of civil servants in the state through the prompt payments of salaries and the commencement of the payment of gratuities for retirees.
He however, appealed to Governor Agbu Kefas to address the outstanding six month salary arrears of local government staff and four months salary arrears of primary school teachers in the State.
Other demands he called on the Governor to look into included, implementation of promotions and upgrading of workers at all levels in the state.
The Chairman ended by appealing to the State Government to consider the employment of technical personnel in the Primary Health Care Development Agency to fill the existing vacancies across the sixteen local government areas.
