WORKSHOP: Kefas’ LG Leadership Training Will Strengthen Grassroots Governance — ALGON Chairman.

JALINGO — The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Taraba State Chapter, Hon. Moses Maihankali, has commended Governor Agbu Kefas for sponsoring a leadership training programme for Chairmen of the state’s Local Government Councils and other stakeholders in Jaji, Kaduna State.

Maihankali, who is also the Chairman of Kurmi Local Government Council, said the training in Peace Support, Financial Management and Leadership would enhance the capacity of local government leaders to effectively discharge their responsibilities and improve governance at the grassroots.

In a statement issued on Monday, August 11, 2026, the ALGON Chairman described the initiative as evidence of the Kefas administration’s commitment to human capital development and effective leadership.

He said continuous capacity building was necessary to equip local government leaders with the knowledge and skills required to respond effectively to the challenges of governance and deliver on their mandates.

According to him, investment in the capacity of grassroots leaders would ultimately translate into improved service delivery and greater impact of government policies and programmes across the state’s 16 Local Government Areas.

Maihankali particularly welcomed the Peace Support component of the training, describing it as timely in view of the importance of peaceful coexistence to the development of Taraba.

He said the knowledge acquired by the council chairmen in conflict prevention, peace support and community engagement would complement Governor Kefas’ peace-building efforts across the state.

“Now that the Chairmen of Local Government Councils are better equipped with the knowledge and skills required to promote peaceful coexistence, we are confident that they will contribute more effectively to strengthening the peace initiative of Governor Agbu Kefas across the state,” he said.

The ALGON Chairman, however, urged the participants to go beyond acquiring knowledge by putting the lessons from the training into practice in their respective local government areas.

He said the success of the programme would ultimately be determined by its impact on leadership, peace-building, financial management and service delivery at the grassroots.

Maihankali also urged the participants to replicate the knowledge gained among other stakeholders and use it to support the programmes and initiatives of the present administration.

He called for greater commitment, accountability and responsible leadership among the council chairmen, stressing that their positions provided an opportunity to directly improve the lives of citizens at the grassroots.

The ALGON Chairman congratulated all the participants and urged them to remain dedicated to serving the people, saying their collective efforts were essential to building a peaceful, economically vibrant and prosperous Taraba.

He expressed optimism that the training would produce stronger grassroots leadership, improved governance and more effective implementation of government programmes across the state.

The initiative, he added, demonstrates the importance of continuous professional development in strengthening local government administration and ensuring that elected leaders are better prepared to meet the expectations of the people.

INSECURITY:Bissaula Community Leader Raises Alarm Over Renewed Attack, Calls for Lasting Security Deployment.

A community leader in Bissaula Ward of Kurmi Local Government Area, Taraba State, Alhaji Idi Ismaila, has decried a fresh wave of violence that disrupted the fragile peace recently restored to the area. INSECURITY: Two suspected kidnappers nabbed in Mayo Dassa, Jalingo.

Troops of six Brigade Nigerian Army headquarters ,Jalingo have dismantled a notorious kidnapping syndicate terrorizing parts of Jalingo and Lau Local Government Areas of Taraba State.  A statement by Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations Six Brigade Nigeria Army headquarters, Jalingo, Captain Olubodunde Oni says the Brigade act on an intelligence report and two suspects, identified as Ali Idi and Haruna Umar were apprehended early this week.
