TARABA STATE: Appawa Monarch Seeks Funding for Vigilantes, Hunters to Strengthen Community Security.

The District Head of Appawa in Lau Chiefdom, Taraba State, Pastor Amos Soyi, has called on the government and well-meaning individuals to provide financial support for vigilante groups and local hunters, saying adequate funding would significantly enhance grassroots security and complement the efforts of conventional security agencies.

Speaking in an interview with journalists shortly after a security meeting involving farmers and herders in Appawa District, Pastor Soyi said community-based security outfits have continued to play a vital role in safeguarding lives and property despite operating with limited resources.

According to the traditional ruler, providing logistics, allowances and other forms of support to vigilantes and hunters would boost their morale and improve intelligence gathering, surveillance and rapid response to security threats in rural communities.

He explained that the security meeting was convened following concerns over the relationship between farmers and herders in parts of the district, noting that early dialogue was necessary to prevent misunderstandings from escalating into conflicts.

Pastor Soyi commended both farmers and herders for embracing peaceful coexistence and urged them to continue resolving disputes through dialogue rather than violence.

"The peace we enjoy today must be protected by everyone. No individual or group should take the law into their hands or engage in acts capable of disrupting the harmony in our communities," he said.

The royal father warned that his traditional institution would not tolerate acts of insubordination, lawlessness or any behaviour capable of threatening the peace and unity of Appawa District.

He also applauded Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas for his administration's commitment to restoring peace and strengthening security across Taraba State through various initiatives.

Pastor Soyi further described the Federal Government's approval of the establishment of the 10 Division of the Nigerian Army, with its headquarters in Sibre, Ardo Kola Local Government Area of Taraba State, as a landmark development that would reinforce security operations in Taraba, Adamawa and the North-East region.

He commended security agencies operating within Appawa District for their professionalism and dedication to protecting residents, assuring them of the continued support and cooperation of the traditional institution.

The district head added that the security dialogue involving farmers, herders, community leaders and other stakeholders would be sustained as part of efforts to assess the progress of peace initiatives, strengthen mutual understanding and create a secure environment capable of attracting government presence and socio-economic development to the district.

INSECURITY:Bissaula Community Leader Raises Alarm Over Renewed Attack, Calls for Lasting Security Deployment.

A community leader in Bissaula Ward of Kurmi Local Government Area, Taraba State, Alhaji Idi Ismaila, has decried a fresh wave of violence that disrupted the fragile peace recently restored to the area. He made the remarks during a press briefing where he recounted the latest attack and appealed for urgent government intervention. According to Ismaila, the Bissaula community was thrown into panic on Wednesday, 19 November 2025, at about 8:00 p.m., when unknown gunmen, suspected to be members of the Ndaka-Chamba militia, stormed the village and opened fire. INSECURITY: Two suspected kidnappers nabbed in Mayo Dassa, Jalingo.

Troops of six Brigade Nigerian Army headquarters ,Jalingo have dismantled a notorious kidnapping syndicate terrorizing parts of Jalingo and Lau Local Government Areas of Taraba State.  A statement by Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations Six Brigade Nigeria Army headquarters, Jalingo, Captain Olubodunde Oni says the Brigade act on an intelligence report and two suspects, identified as Ali Idi and Haruna Umar were apprehended early this week.
