The Taraba State Muslim Council has described the establishment of the 10 Division of the Nigerian Army in Taraba State as a significant milestone in efforts to strengthen security and tackle growing security challenges in the region.
The Chairman of the Council, Ustaz Bashir Hamman Adama, said the establishment of the division would reinforce the state’s security architecture and enhance the capacity of security agencies to respond more effectively to threats confronting communities in Taraba and neighbouring Adamawa State.
In a statement, Ustaz Adama commended the Federal Government and Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, for championing the establishment of the Army Division, particularly to strengthen security around border communities in Taraba and Adamawa states.
He said the development was timely, stressing that improved security presence would contribute to creating an environment where residents could go about their legitimate activities without fear.
The Muslim Council, however, urged government and security authorities to place greater emphasis on the security and welfare of ordinary citizens, describing these as fundamental responsibilities of government.
According to Adama, the persistent killing of innocent citizens and destruction of property by criminal elements remain a serious threat to peaceful coexistence and socio-economic development.
He condemned acts of kidnapping, terrorism, armed robbery and other forms of criminality, describing the killing of innocent people and wanton destruction of property as unacceptable.
The Council chairman called on residents of Taraba and Adamawa states to cooperate with security agencies and provide necessary support to the newly established 10 Division of the Nigerian Army to enable it effectively discharge its mandate.
He stressed that security agencies could perform more effectively when communities cooperate with them by providing credible information and supporting legitimate security efforts.
Adama also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and support initiatives aimed at promoting peace and stability across communities.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Taraba State Muslim Council to intensify prayers for peace, stability and development in the state and Nigeria at large.
He expressed optimism that the establishment of the Army Division, coupled with cooperation between security agencies, government and communities, would contribute significantly to creating a safer environment and promoting sustainable development in Taraba and the wider region.
