POLITICS: APGA Names Afiniki Yarima Taraba South Senatorial Candidate Ahead of 2027.

By Jako Keke,  August 20, 2026.

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has affirmed Hon. Afiniki Yarima as its candidate for the Taraba South Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections, replacing Barr. Tanko Kyan-emoh.

Yarima, who spoke after her affirmation, pledged to provide effective, accountable and inclusive representation for the people of Taraba South if elected.

She identified road infrastructure, healthcare, education, youth employment, agricultural development and community security as key areas she would prioritise in the Senate.

«“I am one of you. I understand our struggles and share our dreams,”»

Yarima assured constituents that she would serve with integrity, humility and commitment, promising to represent the people irrespective of ethnic, religious or political affiliation.

She also urged residents of Taraba South to support her candidacy and join hands with her in building what she described as “a better Taraba South.”

The emergence of Yarima also highlights APGA’s increasing effort to create space for women in elective politics, with the party positioning her candidacy as an opportunity for competent female voices to play a greater role in political leadership.

Her candidacy comes as political activities intensify around APGA in Taraba State ahead of the 2027 elections.

The party’s governorship candidate, Hon. Danjuma Usman Shiddi, popularly known as Danji SS, has continued to strengthen his grassroots engagement across the state, particularly in Southern Taraba.

His growing political profile has been attributed by supporters to his accessibility, community engagement and emphasis on maintaining direct relationships with ordinary citizens.

APGA supporters say the party’s expanding network beyond its traditional structures could position it as a significant alternative in the 2027 elections.

With Yarima now taking up the senatorial contest in Taraba South, her emergence is expected to boost APGA’s visibility in the zone and complement the party’s wider political campaign in the state.

Calling on constituents to support her ambition, Yarima expressed confidence in the collective strength of the people of Taraba South.

“Vote Hon. Afiniki Yarima for Senate – Taraba South. APGA – the people’s progressive choice,” she declared.
