As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to commemorate International Youth Day, an aspirant for the Gassol II State Constituency seat in the Taraba State House of Assembly, Hon. Japheth Ezekiel Dadason, has called on youths in Gassol II, Taraba State and across Nigeria to reject violence, political thuggery and other forms of destructive political engagement.
Dadason, in a message marking the occasion, urged young people to see the celebration as an opportunity to reflect on their role in shaping the future of their communities, rather than merely as a ceremonial event.
He said the increasing political participation of young people should be channelled towards promoting peace, accountability, development and responsible leadership, particularly as the country gradually approaches another election cycle.
According to him, youths have a critical role to play in determining the quality of leadership that emerges at all levels of government and should therefore resist attempts by politicians or other interests to use them as instruments of violence.
“As elections draw closer, we as youths should shun violence and thuggery. We must stand firm and support our fellow youths who have the zeal, vision and commitment to lead,” Dadason said.
He stressed that political differences should not be allowed to divide communities or turn young people against one another, noting that elections should be viewed as an opportunity for citizens to freely choose leaders capable of advancing their interests.
The aspirant further challenged youths in Gassol II State Constituency to become active participants in community development by embracing education, entrepreneurship, innovation, agriculture, skills acquisition and other productive ventures that can improve their livelihoods.
Dadason said the future of Gassol II and Taraba State would depend largely on the ability of its younger population to take ownership of the development process and demand leadership that prioritises the welfare of the people.
He called for greater unity among youths across political, ethnic and religious lines, maintaining that the common interest of the people should take precedence over partisan differences.
“We should focus on rebuilding Nigeria, Taraba State and Gassol II State Constituency. Let us celebrate in unity, promote peace and work together for a better future,” he added.
Dadason also urged parents, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community leaders and other stakeholders to continue guiding young people towards responsible citizenship and peaceful participation in democratic processes.
He said empowering youths with the right opportunities, skills and platforms would not only reduce their vulnerability to political manipulation but also position them as key drivers of economic and social transformation.
He congratulated youths across Gassol II, Taraba State and Nigeria on the occasion of International Youth Day, calling on them to embrace hope, unity and constructive engagement as they work towards a more peaceful and prosperous society.
International Youth Day is observed annually to highlight issues affecting young people and promote their participation in social, economic and political development.
