A social media post apparently seeking favour from Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has taken a humorous turn, as the author combined political praise with a traditional promise of goro (kolanut).
In the playful message addressed to the governor, the writer Amb Daniel Dabala acknowledged Fintiri’s alleged achievements in the state and declared that the people could not afford to “miss” him in 2027.
But rather than ending with the usual political compliments, the writer switched gears, asking the governor for a personal favour.
“Ah taimaka min, zan kawo goro by next week,” the writer said in Hausa, roughly meaning, “Please help me; I will bring kolanut next week.”
The post, laced with laughing and thinking emojis, suggested that the promised kolanut was more than a mere traditional gift—it appeared to be part of a carefully calculated lobbying strategy.
As if the message needed another twist, the writer concluded with the bold declaration: “Jama’a, ai ni ma in-law Gwamna ne”—loosely translated as, “People, I am also the governor’s in-law.”
The comic post has effectively turned the age-old practice of paying a courtesy visit with kolanut into what could pass for a light-hearted political campaign strategy.
Whether the kolanut will eventually arrive, or whether the governor will respond to the unusual request, remains unknown.
For now, one thing is certain: in the politics of 2027, some campaigners may be bringing manifestos, while others may simply be coming with goro—and an “in-law” card to match. 🤭
