The Executive Chairman of Takum Local Government Council, Hon. Bako Benjamin, on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, led an inspection and assessment tour of the proposed site for a Naval Base in Kashimbila, Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The tour was conducted alongside officials of the Taraba Geographic Information Service (TAGIS) and Brigadier General E. Bawa, who led the military delegation and guided the team around the proposed location. Gen. Bawa briefed the delegation on the strategic importance of the facility for improving security and driving development in Takum, Southern Taraba, and within Kashimbila and its environs.
TAGIS officials also carried out benchmark and demarcation exercises at the proposed site as part of preliminary steps toward the actualization of the project.
During the assessment, the delegation reviewed the suitability of the location and discussed technical and logistical requirements for the take-off of the base.
Speaking after the inspection, Hon. Benjamin emphasized that the establishment of the base would go a long way in strengthening security, enhancing effective surveillance, and promoting socio-economic activities not only in Kashimbila but also in neighboring communities across Takum LGA.
As part of the visit, the delegation paid a courtesy call on the Third-Class Chief of Kashimbila, His Royal Highness Alhaji Zakari Musa, where they were warmly received. The Chairman sought the royal father’s support and blessings for the project.
“I remain committed to working with all stakeholders, including our security agencies and traditional institutions, to ensure that projects that will bring peace and prosperity to our people are actualized,” Hon. Benjamin said.
He expressed optimism that when established, the proposed Naval Base would significantly improve security and create an enabling environment for sustainable development in Kashimbila and the entire Takum Local Government Area.
Recall that a few weeks ago, the Naval Headquarters approved the establishment of a Naval Base in Kashimbila as part of efforts to strengthen inland waterways security, checkmate criminal activities along the Benue River corridor and support federal government initiatives for the development of Taraba state.
