The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Jalingo Branch, has secured assurances from the Taraba Geographic Information Service (TAGIS) on the allocation of land for the Branch, provision of government layout plots for lawyers and protection of the statutory role of legal practitioners in land documentation.
The commitments were made when the leadership of the NBA Jalingo Branch, led by its Chairman, Dr D. P. Saredau, paid a courtesy and strategic visit to the headquarters of TAGIS along Donga Road, Jalingo, on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.
The Publicity Secretary of the NBA Jalingo Branch, L. L. Takdok, Esq., in a statement issued today said the engagement underscored the commitment of the Branch leadership to protecting members’ interests and advancing the legal profession in the state.
The delegation was received by the Director-General of TAGIS, Surv. Dr Joshua Mark Ma’ku, alongside directors of the agency.
Speaking during the engagement, Saredau said the visit was aimed at formally introducing the newly elected executives of the NBA Jalingo Branch to TAGIS management and exploring areas of cooperation between the two institutions as key stakeholders in land administration and legal practice in Taraba State.
A major issue raised by the NBA leadership was the need for proper compliance with legal requirements in the preparation and processing of land instruments.
Saredau appealed to TAGIS to ensure that instruments of conveyance, including Deeds of Assignment, are duly prepared by legal practitioners and bear the required lawyer’s seal and NBA stamp before being accepted for the processing of Certificates of Occupancy (C of O).
The NBA Chairman also requested the allocation of a parcel of land to the Jalingo Branch for the construction of its operational structure, preferably close to the site earmarked for the proposed new High Court Complex at Jenbambu, along Mayo Dassa Road, Jalingo.
He further sought the collaboration of TAGIS in facilitating the allocation of plots within government layouts to interested members of the legal profession.
Responding, the TAGIS Director-General gave positive assurances on all three requests.
Ma’ku assured the NBA leadership that a parcel of land would be allocated to the Jalingo Branch near the proposed new High Court Complex.
He also disclosed that the agency would work out modalities for allocating plots within government layouts to lawyers through the NBA Jalingo Branch.
On the professional concerns raised by the NBA, the TAGIS boss pledged to put mechanisms in place to ensure that land certification and documentation processes comply strictly with legal requirements and that the statutory role of lawyers in the process is not undermined.
The development is expected to strengthen institutional cooperation between the NBA Jalingo Branch and TAGIS while advancing the welfare and professional interests of lawyers in Taraba State.
