Campaigns: Nyameh Urges Tarabans to Reject Politics of Insults, Embrace Issues

By Jako Keke, August 19, 2026.
As campaigns for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections officially commence, the Accord governorship candidate in Taraba State, Professor Jerome Nyameh, has called on politicians and their supporters to embrace issue-based campaigns and shun personal attacks, insults and character assassination.

Nyameh, in a message marking the commencement of the campaign season, stressed that politics should not be treated as warfare but as a democratic process for choosing leaders capable of serving the people and advancing development.

He urged political parties, candidates and their supporters to avoid allowing political differences to destroy relationships among friends, colleagues, neighbours and family members.

According to him, while elections will come and go, the relationships built among citizens will endure beyond the electoral season.

The Accord candidate called for campaigns centred on the ideas, competence, credibility, integrity, track records, vision and capacity of candidates to deliver effective leadership.

He specifically appealed to political actors to reject name-calling, insults, personal attacks and character assassination, insisting that political criticism should be constructive and focused on issues.

“Politics is a means of choosing leaders who will serve the people, provide good governance, and move our communities and nation forward,” Nyameh stated.

He urged Tarabans and political stakeholders to rise above what he described as “petty politics” and demonstrate maturity, respect and decorum throughout the campaign period.

Nyameh said political opponents could disagree on policies and issues without losing their humanity, stressing that political competition should be conducted with dignity.

He advocated a campaign culture where ideas take precedence over insults, policies over personalities, and service over hatred.

“Let us campaign with respect. Let us compete with dignity,” he said.

The Accord governorship candidate appealed with a call for a better Taraba, declaring: “Taraba deserves better! A new Taraba is possible!”
