The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has marked his 58th birthday with a ₦25 million donation to orphans, widows and teachers caring for vulnerable children in Taraba State.
The gesture came during a courtesy visit by a delegation from GMCN Orphanage and Christian Care for Widows, led by prominent Taraba politician, Hon. Prince Leah Solomon Olusiyi, to felicitate with the APC National Chairman on his birthday.
Speaking during the visit, Olusiyi drew attention to the plight of orphans and widows in the state, stressing the need for sustained support from individuals, government agencies, corporate organisations and other well-meaning Nigerians.
She explained that the initiative, whose vision dates back to 1999, has continued to grow in its efforts to provide care and support for vulnerable children and women despite the challenges involved.
According to her, the increasing number of people requiring assistance makes it imperative for stakeholders to strengthen partnerships and expand intervention programmes.
Olusiyi appealed to the APC chairman and other philanthropists to support efforts aimed at improving the welfare, education and general wellbeing of orphans and widows across the state.
Responding to the appeal, Yilwatda announced a total donation of ₦25 million to support the beneficiaries.
The APC National Chairman allocated ₦10 million to orphans, another ₦10 million to widows, while ₦5 million was donated to teachers responsible for the care and education of the orphans.
The intervention was received as a significant humanitarian gesture, particularly at a time when many vulnerable families continue to face economic difficulties.
Beyond the financial support, the donation also underscored the importance of investing in the welfare and future of vulnerable children, while recognising the role of teachers and caregivers who provide daily support to them.
The birthday gesture has consequently added a humanitarian dimension to Yilwatda's 58th birthday celebration, turning what could have been a personal milestone into an opportunity to extend support to members of society facing difficult circumstances.
Beneficiaries and organisers expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as an encouragement to individuals and organisations involved in the long-term care of orphans and widows.
The organisers further called for sustained collaboration among government, private organisations, religious bodies and philanthropists to ensure that vulnerable children have access to education, healthcare and opportunities for a better future.
Yilwatda's intervention, they noted, could serve as a catalyst for renewed attention to the welfare of orphans and widows and encourage more Nigerians to contribute to humanitarian causes within their communities.
The Representative of the Students, Comfort aporeciated the fatherly roles of Governor Agbu Kefas who visited the babies home to envouraged them.
Comfort while appreciating the declaration of free and compulsory education in primary and Secondary schools across the state expressed the hope that the gesture will be extended to the Global Methodist Church Orphanage,GMCN Orphange Mile Six Jalingo.
She congratulated thw All Progressives Congress National Chairman Professor Nentawa Goshwe Yilwatda on his fifty eight birthday anniversary and wishes him him well as he steers the affairs of the party across Nigeria.
The Event was attended by APC National Women leader ,Zainab Ibrahim ,APC Taraba State Chairman, Alh Abubakar Bawa, Former Speaker RT Hon Istifanus Gbana amomg others.
