LAW: Court Admits Opay Bank Statement as Evidence in Danladi Jibrin's Suit Against Gabriel Olayinka.
By Our Judicial Correspondent
The Upper Area Court sitting in Jalingo has admitted into evidence a bank statement tendered by the Taraba State Manager of Opay in the ongoing case filed by Danladi Jibrin against Gabriel Olayinka.
The document was presented during the continuation of hearing following a subpoena issued by the court at the instance of counsel to the complainant, D.G. Tukura Esq.
The Opay State Manager appeared before the court and tendered the requested bank statement in compliance with the subpoena.
Following the admission of the document, counsel to the defendant, P.D. Pius Esq., sought leave of the court to cross-examine the witness. However, the application was opposed by the complainant's counsel.
In his ruling, the Presiding Judge, Lawan Jika, declined the defence's request to cross-examine the Opay State Manager after the documents had been tendered.
Speaking with journalists after the proceedings, counsel to the defendant, L.L. Takdok Esq., maintained that the defence remained prepared to challenge the allegations against their client. He noted that the complainant had so far presented three witnesses, all summoned through subpoenas, to tender bank statements in support of the case.
On his part, counsel to the complainant, D.G. Tukura Esq., said the appearance of the Opay State Manager and the tendering of the bank documents formed part of the complainant's efforts to establish the facts before the court.
Justice Lawan Jika subsequently adjourned the matter to August 5, 2026, for continuation of hearing.
