TARABA: PVC Collection Allegations: Danji SS Media Team Urges Taraba Government to Probe Claims, Protect Workers' Rights.

The Danji SS Media Team has called on the Taraba State Government to urgently investigate allegations that some officials in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) are requesting photocopies of workers' Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), with claims that failure to comply could affect the payment of salaries.

In a statement made available to journalists, the group described the allegations as serious and called for immediate intervention by the appropriate authorities to safeguard workers' constitutional rights and public confidence in the electoral process.

According to the statement, complaints have reportedly emerged from several parts of the state, including Zing, Wukari and Kurmi Local Government Areas. The media team also cited a recent allegation involving Sardauna Local Government Area, where an Education Secretary was said to have directed primary school teachers to submit photocopies of their PVCs.

The group stated that, to the best of its knowledge, neither the Civil Service Rules, the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) guidelines, nor any applicable federal or state law makes the submission of a PVC a requirement for salary payment.

It maintained that a Permanent Voter Card is an electoral document issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) solely for the purpose of enabling eligible citizens to exercise their voting rights and should not ordinarily be demanded by employers as a condition for remuneration.

The statement further noted that the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria guarantees citizens the freedom to vote and associate politically without intimidation, stressing that workers should not face pressure or adverse consequences over their political choices or personal electoral information.

The Danji SS Media Team expressed concern that, if substantiated, the alleged practice could undermine confidence in the democratic process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It also observed what it described as increased government activities in recent months, including payment of outstanding workers' wages, road rehabilitation projects and distribution of school materials, while emphasizing that public interventions should be driven by the public interest and sustainable governance.

The group urged Governor Agbu Kefas, the Head of the Civil Service, SUBEB and the chairmen of Zing, Kurmi, Wukari and Sardauna Local Government Areas to investigate the allegations, issue a public clarification and ensure that any officials found to have acted outside the law are held accountable.

It also called on the authorities to issue clear directives to all MDAs and local government councils affirming that salary payments must not be tied to the submission of PVCs or participation in political activities.

The media team further appealed to election-focused civil society organisations, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), INEC, Yiaga Africa and the National Human Rights Commission to independently examine the allegations and take appropriate action within their respective mandates.

As of the time of filing this report, the Taraba State Government and the agencies mentioned in the statement had not issued official responses to the allegations.

INSECURITY:Bissaula Community Leader Raises Alarm Over Renewed Attack, Calls for Lasting Security Deployment.

A community leader in Bissaula Ward of Kurmi Local Government Area, Taraba State, Alhaji Idi Ismaila, has decried a fresh wave of violence that disrupted the fragile peace recently restored to the area. He made the remarks during a press briefing where he recounted the latest attack and appealed for urgent government intervention. INSECURITY: Two suspected kidnappers nabbed in Mayo Dassa, Jalingo.

Troops of six Brigade Nigerian Army headquarters ,Jalingo have dismantled a notorious kidnapping syndicate terrorizing parts of Jalingo and Lau Local Government Areas of Taraba State.  A statement by Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations Six Brigade Nigeria Army headquarters, Jalingo, Captain Olubodunde Oni says the Brigade act on an intelligence report and two suspects, identified as Ali Idi and Haruna Umar were apprehended early this week.
