COURT: Bank Managers Tender Financial Records as Court Adjourns Alleged Breach of Trust Trial to July 17.

By Jako Keke, July 2, 2026.
Proceedings in the alleged breach of trust and cheating case against the Chief Executive Officer of Taraba Business School, Gabriel Olayinka, continued on Thursday at Upper Area Court 11, Jalingo, with the prosecution presenting documentary evidence through two bank officials.

Counsel to the complainant, Jibril Danladi, Barrister D.G. Tukura, called the branch managers of Zenith Bank and Globus Bank, Jalingo, who had earlier been subpoenaed to produce statements of account relating to Taraba Business School.

The two witnesses appeared before the court and tendered the requested bank statements, which were admitted in evidence.

The court had also subpoenaed the manager of Opay to produce relevant account statements. However, the Opay representative arrived after the matter had commenced and did not testify.

Following the development, the presiding Judge, Lawan Jika, directed that a hearing notice be served on the Opay manager to appear at the next sitting with the required documents.

The matter was subsequently adjourned to July 17, 2026, for continuation of hearing.

Speaking with journalists after the proceedings, Barrister Tukura said the bank statements produced by the Zenith Bank and Globus Bank managers had been admitted as exhibits.

He explained that the prosecution could not call its principal witness because the Opay manager failed to appear in time to tender the required documents.

According to him, the prosecution expects to present its sole witness after the Opay official complies with the court's directive at the next adjourned date.

Counsel to the defendant, Barrister L.L. Takdok of P.D. Pius and Associates, said he did not oppose the application for adjournment, noting that it was the prerogative of the complainant's counsel to determine the order in which witnesses are called.

Gabriel Olayinka is standing trial before Upper Area Court 11, Jalingo, on charges of alleged criminal breach of trust and cheating. The case was instituted by Jibril Danladi and is being heard before Judge Lawan Jika.
