The Taraba State Government says it has recorded significant progress in women and child development over the past three years under the administration of Governor Agbu Kefas, with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development implementing a series of reforms and intervention programmes.

The achievements, driven by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Hon. Mrs. Mary Sinjen, span child protection, women's empowerment, humanitarian support and institutional reforms aimed at improving the welfare of vulnerable groups across the state.

According to the government, the ministry has intensified efforts to combat human trafficking through the rescue, rehabilitation and reunification of trafficked women and children, while also strengthening child protection mechanisms and promoting the rights and welfare of vulnerable children.

The ministry also reported major interventions in addressing gender-based violence, focusing on access to justice for survivors, community sensitisation and support services for victims.

As part of efforts to enhance women's economic inclusion, the ministry expanded livelihood programmes, social protection initiatives and humanitarian assistance targeted at women, widows and other vulnerable households.

The government further noted that humanitarian interventions were extended to orphanages, survivors of abuse and families affected by various crises, while child and youth development programmes were strengthened through leadership initiatives and advocacy campaigns.

Beyond the state, the commissioner represented Taraba at several national and international conferences on women's empowerment, child protection and gender equality, projecting the state's commitment to advancing the rights of women and children.

The ministry also undertook institutional reforms by modernising its operations, promoting digital transformation, enhancing staff capacity and strengthening partnerships with government agencies, development partners, civil society organisations and international institutions.

The government added that Mrs. Sinjen's leadership has attracted several national and international recognitions, reflecting the impact of the ministry's programmes in advancing women and child development in Taraba State.
