Troops of the Nigerian Army attached to the 6 Brigade and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke have neutralised two suspected bandits and recovered arms and other items during a clearance operation in Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The operation, carried out by troops deployed at Sarkin Kudu, followed credible intelligence on the activities of suspected bandits operating from a hideout around Dooshima District in the area.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, the troops swiftly mobilised for a tactical raid after receiving the intelligence report on May 18, 2026.
The statement disclosed that the soldiers encountered the armed suspects at the hideout, leading to a fierce gun battle.
“During the encounter, troops successfully neutralised two suspected bandits, while others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds,” the statement said.
Items recovered from the scene included one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, a locally fabricated pistol, one Android phone, three small mobile phones, two charm vests and other personal belongings.
The Army said the recovered exhibits are currently in custody and would be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and necessary action.
Reacting to the operation, the Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for their bravery and swift response.
He noted that the successful raid aligned with the directive of the Chief of Army Staff aimed at flushing out criminal elements and restoring lasting peace across Taraba State and neighbouring areas.
Akaliro also assured that the Brigade’s reward and sanction system would be applied appropriately to the soldiers involved in the operation.
The commander reaffirmed the commitment of the Brigade to sustain aggressive operations against criminal activities in the state and urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information.
