The 114 Battalion (Rear) of the Nigerian Army on Friday, January 24, 2026, held its maiden West African Social Activities (WASA) celebration at the Battalion Parade Ground, Jimilari, in a colourful ceremony marked by cultural displays, unity and military camaraderie.
The event, the first of its kind in the history of the Battalion, brought together officers, soldiers, their families and friends in a celebration of tradition, esprit de corps and mutual bonding.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, who served as the Special Guest of Honour, commended the Commanding Officer, officers and soldiers of the Battalion for their discipline, professionalism and dedication to duty.
Brigadier General Uwa noted that the operational support, administrative and regimental roles of the 114 Battalion (Rear) remain vital to the overall success and effectiveness of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 OPWS. He urged the troops to continue to uphold the core values of the Nigerian Army in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The Brigade Commander also paid glowing tribute to the spouses and families of the troops, acknowledging their patience, resilience and unwavering support. He described their sacrifices as a critical pillar for sustaining morale and enhancing operational effectiveness within the Army.
He encouraged officers and soldiers to use the WASA celebration as an opportunity to renew their commitment to discipline, loyalty, teamwork and unity across ranks, cultures and backgrounds.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Commanding Officer, 114 Battalion (Rear), Major John Kopji Datol, described the occasion as historic, stressing that it marked the Battalion’s first-ever WASA celebration. He expressed deep appreciation to the Commander 6 Brigade for his consistent support, particularly in the areas of welfare, training, operations and regimentation.
The highlight of the event was a series of cultural performances and social activities designed to strengthen unity, boost morale and foster closer bonds among personnel of the Battalion and their families.
