The Vice-Chancellor of Taraba State University (TSU), Jalingo, Professor Sunday Paul Bako, has received a National Universities Commission (NUC) Resource Verification Team for the assessment of facilities and manpower for newly proposed academic programmes in the institution.
The exercise, which held on Monday at the University Senate Chamber, is a major step in TSU’s ongoing academic expansion and commitment to meeting national standards in higher education. Receiving the team alongside members of the university management, Prof. Bako described the visit as historic, noting that it was the first time under his leadership that the university was presenting such a large number of new programmes for verification.
He explained that the exercise was designed to evaluate the availability and adequacy of infrastructure, academic staff, and other critical resources required for the successful take-off of the proposed programmes. The Vice-Chancellor recalled that TSU underwent a major accreditation exercise in 2022 when the accreditation status of 76 programmes expired, adding that between 2022 and 2025, all programmes presented to the NUC were granted full accreditation.
According to him, the success recorded in previous accreditation exercises has strengthened the university’s resolve to expand its academic scope in line with contemporary educational demands and national manpower needs. Prof. Bako expressed appreciation to the NUC for its continuous support and technical guidance, assuring the team of the university’s full cooperation throughout the verification process. He described the relationship between TSU and the Commission as cordial and family-oriented, and expressed hope for its sustenance.
The programmes presented for resource verification cut across several disciplines and include Animal Health Management and Allied Utilisation, Sharia, Christian Theology, Philosophy, Religious Studies, African Traditional Religion, Classics, Advertisement, Broadcasting, Journalism and Media Studies, Public Relations, Data Science, Information and Communication Technology, Software Engineering, Special Needs Education, Sustainable Development Studies, Educational Psychology, Entrepreneurship Education, Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Radiography, Banking and Finance, Surveying and Geo-informatics, Meteorology and Climate Studies, Human Kinetics Education, and Health Education.
Members of the NUC Resource Verification Team commended the Vice-Chancellor for maintaining a conducive academic environment that supports effective teaching, learning, and research. They explained that the purpose of the visit was to assess the human and material resources available for the newly proposed programmes, in line with established NUC guidelines.
The team noted that the exercise would ensure that the required standards in staffing, infrastructure, and facilities are met before approval is granted. The resource verification, they added, is expected to further strengthen TSU’s academic offerings and reinforce its commitment to quality assurance and national development.
