A fresh wave of political advocacy has emerged in Taraba State, as prominent voices intensify calls on Professor Jerome Nyameh to declare his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In an open appeal circulated on Wednesday, Hon. Abdul Usman Gassol, a political advocate from Wukari, urged the former governorship aspirant and respected academic to heed what he described as a growing demand from across the state for a new political direction anchored on integrity, competence, and inclusive governance.
Professor Nyameh, who contested the 2023 governorship primaries under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was widely regarded at the time as a reform-minded contender with a strong grassroots following. However, lingering internal crises within the PDP culminated in his resignation from the party in 2025, a move his supporters have consistently described as “principled.”
According to Gassol, the professor’s exit from the PDP has not diminished his political relevance but rather strengthened public calls for his leadership, particularly among youths, women, elders, and community stakeholders seeking an alternative to what they view as entrenched political structures.
The appeal specifically urged Prof. Nyameh to align with the ADC, portraying the party as a progressive platform free from internal rancour and elite domination. Gassol argued that the ADC offers a “clean slate” capable of accommodating Nyameh’s vision for agricultural revitalisation, improved education, accessible healthcare, and enhanced security across Taraba State.
He further stressed that an early declaration ahead of the 2027 polls would be strategic, enabling the consolidation of support, attraction of alliances, and mobilisation of resources, while preventing what he termed “opportunistic forces” from diluting the momentum around Nyameh’s potential candidacy.
Supporters of the professor have also cited social media engagements and informal opinion polls as evidence of sustained public enthusiasm for his return to frontline politics, branding him the “People’s Professor” and a symbol of hope for a new Taraba.
As of the time of filing this report, Professor Jerome Nyameh has not made any official statement regarding the appeal or his political plans for 2027. However, the latest call underscores the early jockeying for position and realignments already taking shape in Taraba’s political landscape as the next governorship election draws closer.
