SWAN@60: Pastor Usman Urges Christians to Remain Thankful to God, as SWAN Taraba Marks 60th Anniversary with Thanksgiving Service.

By Jako,October 24,2025.

The Resident Pastor of The Healing Faith Church, Jalingo, Rev. Dan Usman, has charged Christians to cultivate a heart of gratitude, emphasizing that thankfulness remains a key to success and spiritual progress in the life of every believer.

Delivering a sermon titled “Thank God for the Better Tomorrow” during a special thanksgiving service on Sunday, Pastor Usman drew his text from 1 Corinthians 15:57, reminding the congregation that those who walk faithfully with God are always secure and positioned to excel in life.

He encouraged Christians to remain steadfast in faith despite life’s challenges, assuring them that God’s mercy and protection remain constant. “God always does new things in the life of a faithful believer who heeds His commandments,” he said, adding that gratitude to God opens doors to greater blessings.

The thanksgiving service was organized by the Taraba State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) as part of activities marking the association’s 60th anniversary.

In his remarks, the Chairman of SWAN Taraba, Mr. Jude Nuhu Gundale, expressed appreciation to the church for the opportunity to hold the thanksgiving service, describing it as a moment of reflection and gratitude for God’s faithfulness over the years.

“We do not take this privilege for granted. SWAN remains committed to promoting sporting activities and nurturing talents across Taraba State,” Gundale stated.

Also speaking, a board member of the Taraba State Sports Commission and former SWAN Vice President, Mr. Abubakar Sadiq Moyoyo, commended the national leadership of the association for providing members the opportunity to celebrate six decades of impactful service.

He lauded the unity demonstrated by members of both the Christian and Muslim faiths during the celebration, describing it as a positive example of peaceful coexistence. Moyoyo pledged continued support to SWAN’s efforts in advancing sports development in Taraba State and beyond.

The event, which drew members, clergy, and sports enthusiasts from across Jalingo, was marked by praise sessions, prayers, and renewed commitment to service, faith, and community development.

Kurmi on the Brink: Why Silence Now Could Spell Disaster

By The Nigerian Newspointer Editorial Board In the quiet hills and lush forests of Kurmi Local Government Area of Taraba State, an uneasy wind is blowing. Migration in itself is not new—men and women have always moved in search of safety, trade, and survival. But what is happening in Kurmi today bears markers that Nigeria has, sadly, seen before. And if urgent steps are not taken, the consequences could be dire. A Pattern Too Familiar From Plateau to Benue, from Southern Kaduna to Zamfara, Nigeria’s troubled history is littered with stories of migration that started innocently but later spiraled into violent conflicts. Farmers and herders once lived in uneasy but manageable coexistence until land sales, unchecked settlements, and political silence turned simple disputes into ethnic conflagrations. The echoes of those past crises are now knock...
