CELEBRATION:Imam Urges Journalists to Uphold Truth and Fairness, As SWAN Marks 60th Anniversary in Jalingo.

By Keke,October 24,2025.

The Chief Imam of Technobat Jumat Mosque, Jalingo, Sheikh Mohammed Babangida Aliyu, has called on journalists across Nigeria to remain steadfast in upholding truth, fairness, and accuracy in their reportage, stressing that responsible journalism is vital to sustaining peace and unity in the country.

Sheikh Aliyu made the appeal on Friday while receiving members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), who joined the congregation for Juma’at prayers as part of activities marking the association’s 60th anniversary celebration.

In his sermon, the cleric underscored the influence of the media in shaping public opinion and promoting social harmony. He cautioned journalists against sensationalism and false reporting that could incite unrest or undermine national cohesion.
“Journalists must always say the truth and avoid publishing stories that could jeopardize the peace of our country. The pen is powerful, and it should be used to promote understanding, not division,” Sheikh Aliyu stated.

Responding, former Deputy National President of SWAN, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Moyoyo, expressed gratitude to the Imam for his counsel, assuring that the association remains committed to the principles of ethical and professional journalism.

Moyoyo also outlined SWAN’s mission of uniting Nigerian sports journalists under a common professional platform, promoting high ethical standards, and contributing to the growth of sports across the nation.

He reaffirmed the association’s willingness to collaborate with individuals, groups, and institutions interested in advancing sports development in Taraba State and Nigeria at large.

On his part, the Taraba State Chairman of SWAN, Mr. Jude Nuhu G., commended the mosque’s leadership for their warm reception and the opportunity to fellowship with the Muslim community during the Friday service.

He pledged that SWAN in Taraba would continue to build bridges of understanding and professionalism among journalists, urging interested practitioners to join the association to strengthen its impact in the state.

The visit to Technobat Mosque was part of a series of events lined up to commemorate SWAN’s 60 years of fostering sports reporting excellence and promoting unity among journalists in Nigeria.

Kurmi on the Brink: Why Silence Now Could Spell Disaster

By The Nigerian Newspointer Editorial Board In the quiet hills and lush forests of Kurmi Local Government Area of Taraba State, an uneasy wind is blowing. And if urgent steps are not taken, the consequences could be dire. Farmers and herders once lived in uneasy but manageable coexistence until land sales, unchecked settlements, and political silence turned simple disputes into ethnic conflagrations. The echoes of those past crises are now knock...
