The event, which took place at the C2C Conference Hall in Jalingo, brought together top security chiefs, journalists, colleagues, and friends who gathered to celebrate the service and contributions of Captain Oni.

Speaking at the event, Commander of Six Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, described Captain Oni as a committed, diligent, and patriotic officer who approached his duties with utmost professionalism.

“Captain Oni has stood out among his peers. His service here has been exceptional, particularly in the area of civil-military relations,” General Uwa stated. “Through his proactive and cordial engagement with the media, he greatly enhanced the visibility of the Brigade’s operations in Taraba State.”

The Brigade Commander acknowledged that although redeployment is a routine part of military service, Captain Oni’s departure would be deeply felt, especially in the Public Relations Department. He also used the occasion to congratulate two officers who were recently promoted to the rank of Captain, urging them to uphold the same standard of professionalism.

In his remarks, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Taraba State Council, Comrade Matthew Eliud Jen, commended Captain Oni for fostering a strong relationship between the army and the media. “He is one of the few officers who truly understood the importance of media partnership in security communication,” Jen said, adding that journalists in the state are proud of his exemplary conduct.

Responding, Captain Olubodunde Oni expressed gratitude to Brigadier General Uwa for his leadership and mentorship, as well as to his fellow officers for their cooperation during his tenure. He attributed the successes recorded in media coverage to the team spirit within the Brigade and the support of journalists across the state.

“I am deeply humbled by the goodwill shown today. The work we did together was not mine alone—it was a collective effort driven by dedication to peace and service to the nation,” Captain Oni said.

The event also featured goodwill messages from heads of various security agencies, all of whom praised Captain Oni’s character, professionalism, and collaborative spirit.
