The 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) on Sunday held a special church service in Jalingo as part of activities marking the 163rd Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2026.
The thanksgiving service took place at Saint Peter Catholic Church, Nukkai, and brought together government officials, military personnel, security chiefs and other dignitaries to offer prayers for the nation and the Armed Forces.
Speaking during the service, Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, described the occasion as an opportunity to thank God for His protection over officers and soldiers, honour their sacrifices and pray for enduring peace, unity and security across the country.
The governor said military service is more than a profession, describing it as a calling that demands discipline, courage, loyalty, endurance and selfless sacrifice.
He noted that the theme of NADCEL 2026, "Protecting the Nation and Serving the People: A Way Forward for the Nigerian Army," underscores the importance of professionalism, discipline and commitment to constitutional order in sustaining the Army's role as a pillar of Nigeria's unity, sovereignty and stability.
Kefas commended the Nigerian Army for its continued efforts in safeguarding the nation's territorial integrity, supporting internal security operations, participating in peacekeeping missions and confronting emerging security threats.
He urged Nigerians to support security agencies by promoting peaceful coexistence, providing credible information and fostering national unity, stressing that security remains a collective responsibility.
The governor also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, and the Commander, officers and soldiers of the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS for their contributions to peace and stability in Taraba State.
He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to sustaining collaboration with the Armed Forces and other security agencies in protecting lives and property across the state.
In his remarks, the Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, thanked Governor Kefas, government officials and the people of Taraba State for their continued support to the Brigade.
The Brigade Commander also expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff for his visionary leadership and commitment to improving the operational effectiveness and welfare of Nigerian Army personnel.
The church service was attended by top government officials, heads of security agencies, serving and retired senior military officers, the Zonal Coordinator of the Nigerian Army Officers' Wives Association (NAOWA), 6 Brigade Chapter, and other distinguished guests.
