Proceedings in a suit challenging the conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections for the Jalingo/Yorro/Zing and Ardo-Kola/Karim-Lamido/Lau federal constituencies were on Monday stalled at the Federal High Court, Jalingo, following the absence of the presiding judge, Justice Mashkur Salisu.
The matter, which was slated for hearing, could not proceed as the judge was not in court, prompting an adjournment until June 17, 2026.
The suit was instituted by Honorable Princess Leah Olusiyi Solomon and Honorable Job Julius Saleh, both aspirants in the APC primary election process. Hon Leah Solomon contested for the party's ticket for the Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency, while Hon Julius sought the nomination for the Ardo-Kola/Karim-Lamido/Lau Federal Constituency.
The plaintiffs are asking the court to nullify the primaries in the two constituencies, contending that no valid primary elections were conducted by the party.
They are also seeking an order directing the APC to organise fresh primaries in compliance with the provisions of the law.
Speaking with journalists after the adjournment, counsel to the plaintiffs, Barrister Pius D. Pius, insisted that the legal action was necessitated by the alleged failure of the party to conduct lawful primaries in the affected constituencies.
According to him, the court should declare the exercises invalid and compel the APC to hold fresh primaries in line with the Electoral Act and relevant legal provisions.
Barrister Pius, however, declined to speculate on the reason for Justice Salisu's absence, expressing optimism that the judge would be available to hear the matter on the next adjourned date.
The case is among several election-related disputes currently pending before the Federal High Court in Jalingo over the conduct of APC primaries in Taraba State.
Political stakeholders and party members have continued to monitor the proceedings closely, as the eventual outcome of the litigation is expected to have significant implications for the APC's internal nomination process and the broader political landscape in the state.
As of the time of filing this report, the defendants had not publicly responded to the allegations contained in the suit.
