Proceedings in a suit challenging the outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency have been adjourned to July 1, 2026, by the Federal High Court sitting in Jalingo.
The suit was instituted by APC aspirant, Hon. Princess Leah Olusiyi Solomon, who is seeking the nullification of the party’s primary election that produced the incumbent lawmaker representing Jalingo, Yorro and Zing Federal Constituency, Hon. Sadiq Tafida, as the APC flagbearer for the 2027 general elections.
When the matter came up for mention, counsel representing the first and second respondents—the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)—were present in court. However, counsel to the third respondent, Hon. Sadiq Tafida, was absent and no reason was provided for the non-appearance.
Speaking with journalists after the court session, counsel to the plaintiff, Barrister P.D. Pius Esq., disclosed that the court directed that a hearing notice be served on the third respondent’s counsel ahead of the next adjourned date.
According to him, the plaintiff is fully prepared to proceed with the hearing once all parties are duly represented before the court.
“We are ready to commence hearing on the matter as soon as all counsels representing the respondents make themselves available in court,” Pius stated.
Hon. Leah Solomon is challenging the validity of the APC primary election, arguing that the process that produced Hon. Tafida as the party’s candidate should be set aside.
In a related development, the court also adjourned a similar suit filed by another APC aspirant, Hon Job Julius, challenging the party’s primary election for the Ardo-Kola/Karim-Lamido/Lau Federal Constituency.
The matter was adjourned to July 15, 2026, for further proceedings.
Julius is seeking the nullification of the primary election on the grounds that it was allegedly conducted in violation of APC guidelines and established electoral procedures.
The two cases highlight the growing wave of post-primary election litigation within political parties as dissatisfied aspirants increasingly seek judicial intervention to contest nomination processes ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Both matters are expected to return before the Federal High Court in Jalingo on their respective adjourned dates for substantive hearing.
