A former federal lawmaker and politician, , has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Taraba State under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.
Shiddi, popularly known as Danji SS, made the declaration in a statement addressed to the people of Taraba State, saying his decision was borne out of a deep sense of duty, responsibility and commitment to the future of the state.
According to him, the state has continued to face numerous developmental challenges, including poor road infrastructure, inadequate healthcare services, under-equipped schools, insecurity and rising unemployment among youths. He lamented that many families in the state were struggling daily amid worsening economic conditions and diminishing hope.
The governorship hopeful also decried what he described as a growing culture of silence over the challenges confronting the state, stressing that many people had become afraid to speak the truth, while others continued to defend a system that was not serving the interests of the people.
Shiddi said Taraba was richly blessed with human and natural resources as well as a strong cultural heritage, but regretted that more than three decades after the creation of the state, it was still grappling with basic developmental issues that other states created at the same time had overcome.
He maintained that leadership should be anchored on service, accountability, vision and measurable results, adding that the 2027 election should not be driven by ethnic, religious or sectional sentiments but by competence, character, compassion and capacity.
He appealed to the people of the state, especially youths, to support what he described as a movement aimed at rebuilding and restoring confidence in leadership in Taraba State.
