POLITICS: Takum 1 APC Aspirant Jankada Rejects Withdrawal Rumours, Demands Direct Primaries.

By our Correspondent, May 14, 2026.

An aspirant seeking the All Progressives Congress ticket for the Takum 1 State Constituency seat in Taraba State, Hon. Dr. Taninga Audu Jankada, has dismissed reports suggesting that he had withdrawn from the race or agreed to any consensus arrangement ahead of the party primaries.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Dr. Jankada called on his supporters to remain calm, disciplined, and law-abiding while awaiting the directive of the party leadership on the mode of primary election to be adopted.

The APC aspirant reaffirmed his determination to contest for the party’s ticket, stressing that his aspiration remained intact and firmly rooted in his commitment to the people of Takum 1 Constituency.

“Let it be clear: I have not stepped down. My covenant with the people of Takum 1 is intact and unshaken,” he stated.

Dr. Jankada expressed confidence in the leadership of the APC, saying he believed the party would uphold democratic principles by adopting direct primaries to allow members freely choose their preferred candidate.

According to him, direct primaries remain the most transparent process capable of guaranteeing fairness and equal participation for all party members.

The aspirant noted that his ambition was driven by a desire to provide effective grassroots representation and address what he described as longstanding developmental challenges confronting the constituency.

He identified youth empowerment, education, accountability, and community infrastructure as key priorities of his proposed legislative agenda if elected to represent the constituency.

Dr. Jankada also urged his supporters and party loyalists to disregard rumours and speculations surrounding the contest, assuring them that he would continue to pursue his aspiration within the framework of the party’s constitution and established guidelines.

“This journey is not about personal ambition. It is about service, duty, and giving power back to the people of Takum 1,” he said.

Political observers say the Takum 1 State Constituency race is gradually attracting significant attention ahead of the 2027 elections, with stakeholders within the APC closely monitoring developments surrounding the party’s candidate selection process.
